Baseband Coaxial Cable

Baseband coaxial cable transmits a single digital signal in half-duplex mode only. No frequency modulation takes place as in broadband transmission, but the raw bit stream is equally specially modified before transmission, using techniques such as Manchester encoding. The absolute maximum data rate supported is 50 Mbps, since it may occupy the full available cable bandwidth if 50 MHz; However, typical practical maximum range from 3Mbps to 10 Mbps.
Baseband cable is generally used only with linear bus topologies. A typical network with this medium contains 200 to 1000 devices.
