Aplication Distinction

Almost any application implemented on a traditional point-to-point network can
be converted to one of the LAN technologies. In addition, most likely new applications not generally available on a conventional network may be available to the user.
Generally, networks combine transmission, storage, and processing operations to
meet specific user application requirements. The network operation requirements can roughly be divided into four areas:
1. The type of information transmited, e.g. data and voice.
2. The type of interaction devices, e.g. terminals and computers.
3. The type of services offered, e.g. electronic mail.
4. Specialized networks, e.g. process control of laboratory automation.
