| Signing up to Geocities 1. Go to www.geocities.com If you have never used Geocities before; select Sign Up and fill in the information requested. Give yourself a User Name and a password - make sure you note them down. The User Name must be unique - - your own name will probably not be unique enough. Choose your name with care - it will be part of your address! Christian names are MUCH too common - try a combination with your surname, or school name, or numbers. You will have to supply some simple information - if you omit anything, you will go round in circles until you have satisfied Geocities. 2. Once you have registered, you will always be able to go to Geocities and log in. Once logged in, you can write and edit pages and upload files from your computer to your site. 3. You can write and edit pages with PageWizards (easy but limited) or PageBuilder. There is detailed online help available. Note that PageBuilder can take some time to load. Using PageBuilder For detailed information on PageBuilder, read the online tutorial! But to get started it is enough to know the following: To insert text - click on the Text icon and type inside the box. It will automatically expand. To insert a link - mark the words you want to link to and click on the Link icon. To change the colour of the page, click on Format / Background. 5. Once you have written your page, save it. If you call your name "test", the address of the page (so that other people can look at it) will be www.geocities.com/yourname/test.html Hot Potatoes To upload an exercise you have created in Hot Potatoes, proceed as follows: Make sure you know exactly where your Hot Potatoes files are.
