The game begins in the early summer of 2000. The players have all been captured during the war and are interned at various prison camps. They have all been good NATO soldiers and fallen into disfavor with the various prison administrators. A rude awakening follows as they are shipped off from their respective camps and sent to the worst of the worst, Vladimir Zhrinovsky Political Re-Education Camp. Upon arrival at the new camp, the players are all assigned to a barracks and informed of their work duties. Some of the players are assigned to work in the fields surrounding the camp, some are assigned to work as laborers within the camp and the lucky medic gets to work in the infirmary. The players also get acquainted with the prison staff, guards and fellow prisoners. They learn that not all prisoners feel compassion for each other. There is a nasty bunch of prisoners, called the Regulators, who take what they want and generally harrass the others. The officers within the group also become well acquainted with the camp security officer, Major Federov.
The group immediately plans to escape, aided by their fellow bunkmates. Various plans are tossed about. Sergeant Nino becomes the unfortunate target of the Regulators. Fortunately, Sergeant Dorn comes to his aid when Nino is jumped at the lavatory. Sergeant Blue and Private Snow are offered a trip home by the commandant, but they refuse, thinking it could be a trap. Oberleutnenant Holtz meets the senior POW, Colonel Stevens. Col. Stevens informs Holtz that if they do manage to escape, the group should head for Krakow, as he knows there is a DIA station there. Rafe Tullio is sent away on a truck with other prisoners, allegedly to meet with the Red Cross in preparation to be repatriated back to the USA. He and the others are never seen again. Captain Watson attempts to infiltrate the Regulators, with limited success. The players are startled by a surprise inspection of the barracks. Things get out of hand and one of their barracks mates, Sergeant Ricky Martinez is shot and killed on Major Federov's orders.
The group soberly ponders this for a few days. Fortunately, Sergeant Blue befriends another group of prisoners and discovers that they have nearly completed a tunnel leading underneath the fences. They all pitch in and help with the digging and disposal of dirt. The tunnel is completed and Visekorporal Kolernan and Lieutenant Sabo sabotage the camp generator to divert the guard's attention. In the meantime, Sergeant Aldo arrives at the camp and is assigned to another barracks. The diversion at the generator causes a large explosion and fire. The remaining prisoners revolt and Aldo escapes in the confusion.
On the outside, the group heads south, using a map hidden by Col. Stevens. The next day, they ambush a patrol of Polish Interior Ministry, stealing their weapons and equipment. A day later they link up with a band of Ukrainian deserters and NATO stragglers. Sergeant Aldo also joins the group. The group plus some NATO stragglers head west to Krakow, while the other deserters head east to the Ukraine. A few days after that, the group encounters another band of deserters. This time the meeting is not friendly, and Sergeant Santa is killed. However, the group manages to prevail in the firefight.
