| Meet the Spiny Mice! |

| This is a picture of Parsley, I got her with her sister Thyme as my first spiny mice a few weeks back. I got them from a breeder up in Maine. These mice are quick, smart and as I found out uncannily witty. In the first two days I had the first two Thyme escaped her cage twice and I still don't know how! There were twist ties on the doors, no holes in the cage and the tray was all the way in so to me she must have turned into a puff of smoke and leaked through the bars! It's just impossable! They are now housed in aquariums rather then wire cages. I was lucky enough to catch her once by hand (although with a fuss) and once by way of a have-a-hart mouse trap. These little guys are very interesting critters. Their tails are *VERY* fragile and if you were to pick them up by their tail it would rip right off!! However these guys are smart and so far very docile and make good pets in my opinion. The best thing about them is they are totally odorless unlike our pals the Fancy mice! Just be wary of their shapeshifting ways!! ;-) I got 10 spiney mice in total right now- I got 8 more after I heard the breeder that sold me the origional 2 spiney mice was going out of bussiness. I now have 2 trios with 1 male and two females. My first trio is named Parsley, Sage, and Thyme (after lyrics to a song) and my second Trio is named Abraham, Martin & John (again after a song) but don't be fooled Abraham is the only male in that group. My two pairs are also male/female and their names are Mercadees and Benz and Andy and Valarie. Spiny mice usually have around 2 pups in each litter 6 weeks apart. I can't wait to see if I get some babies! E-mail Me--- Back to 'My Mice'--- Go to the Spiny Mouse Gallery Page 1--- Back Home |
