| Is a Spiny Mouse the Right Pet for You? |
| I have written this small article in order for you to determine weither or not a spiny mouse is the appropiate pet for you. Below I will be asking my readers a variety of questions to determine if they are ready for a small exotic such as a spiny. First thing to consider is will you have enough time energy and money to care for a spiny or two for it's entire life? That means you must pay for the animal itself, it's cage, food, bedding, toys, water bottle, water bottle guard, cage clips, food bowl and when ever nesassary vet bills. A spiny mouse can live to be around 5 years old so these are all things to consider. If you can't guarantee this then maybe you should wait awhile. Another thing to consider is why? Why do you want a spiny mouse? If it is because they are exotic, cute or you want to set up some get-rich-quick scheme then you better look elsewhere. As all animals they deserve the respect and treatment of any loved pet, and as far as get rich quick schemes... well these little guys only have a litter of around 2 pups every 6 weeks. That makes it awefully hard to have a get rich quick scheme going! Not to mention you'll have to clean them all, feed them, water them, and take care of them. These are living things not furniture. Another thing to consider is your living arangements. Is your house warm enough year round to substain a desert animal? Do you live in a no pets apartment? In the event of an escape will you be able to recapture your pet? And lastly you need to consider where you are getting them from. If you can't find a breeder and descide to get from a petshop be wary. Check up on all of them. Do they all have their tails? Are they healthy and robust? Are they being taken care of properly? Are they overcrowded? Are the people handeling them knowlegable? Can they answer questions? Can they deturmine the right gender? if everything is OK and looks good then by all means I encourage you to get a spiny or two.
