Yes, I was there - as a Boarder of course, since it was compulsory boarding, despite the fact that our house in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, was at most 400 yards from the school boundary! This was the era of that very strange man - Headmaster Birks who caned or beat me more times than I care to recall. I also remember being beaten by him with a cricket bat - for failing to catch a cricket ball during Cricket Practise. Nevertheless I do also have some very fond memories from those days - particularly of former friends, but also some Staff such as the Waces and Mr Ballard. Even the rotund Muffet probably had his heart in the right place.
I am really very interested in making contact with former Kenton pupils from the same era (especially Ian Goudie, Jeremy Dunleavy, Stephen Eggins, John Lucy and brother, Nigel Bechgaard, Charles Jackson, Michael Butler, Nigel Hobson, Owen Thompson, and Simon(?) Bailey. And, of course, all other contemporaries such as Nicholas Mercer whose name suddenly surfaces! As far as I know, there dont yet appear to be any Web pages which are specifically targeted at Pre Uhuru Kentonians so I hope that this page will encourage you all to regain contacts through me. A significant existing Kenya FPs page is to be found at www.fungasafari.com although sadly there are so far very few Kenton Links there - not even me at the time of writing, although I hope that in due course my name will appear in the Newsletters Page.Since then found this Kenton College FP's site - http://groups.msn.com/Kentonboys/messageboard.msnw - worth a look!
Nigel Bishop organised a tremendous Kenton Reunion at the Honourable Artillery Company HQ in London in October 1999, attended by about 30 or 40 Kentonians plus spouses. Further events could follow - large or small - but inevitably depend on widening the circle of contacts. Sadly I have mislaid Nigels e-mail address but will include it if I retreive it, and with details of attendees once I find them too.
This page, so far, has been added on 20 May 2004. I look forward to your comments and suggestions! I hope shortly to add some Kenton photos - meantime there are some here.
