What a beautiful tribute! As an adoptee, I pray that I will, someday, be united with my birthmother...the woman who gave me such a wonderful chance in this life through the ultimate sacrifice... If only to tell her she did the right thing on July 2, 1963 in Carlsbad, NM....I've had a wonderful life. ...I wonder...WHO are these laws protecting????

I feel so sad when I hear or read of Adoptees/Birthmothers and their relatives not being able to find each other because of the closed system.
I lost my son to adoption in l967. However, I have had the good fortune to have met my boy 24 years later and we have a wonderful relationship. His name is Steve Morrow and I love him dearly and I know he loves me. He now is well on the way to "knowing"
his younger brother and sister. I did not marry his father, however, my husband has been hugely supportive of me and encouraged me to find my son and he has been wonderful to Steve. I have been involved with an organisation called Adoption Jigsaw in Per
h W.Australia. We place people together who have been separated through adoption. We provide counselling, run support groups for all concerned and I give talks to High School students about the effects of separation of mothers and their babies and about
adoption in general. I also speak to community organisations. Usually about my story - my goal is to educate and inform people of the effects of adoption and the closed system that was in place here and world wide. Fortunately our records are open here.
Adoptees were entitled to access their Original Birth Certificates in 1985 and Birthmothers were granted the same rights by law in 1995. There are very few adoptions here in Perth these days and if there are they are "open". I am not sure this would be
a great thing. It cannot take away the pain of not being able to raise your own child and the child is still not with his or her parents. I am not really in favour of adoption at all.
Babies need to be with their Mothers if at all possible.
If anyone would like to contact me on the above E-mail, please do. I would very much like to converse with any interested party and would love to answer any questions at all.
My love to all.

I am very glad to see a site devoted to Jean Paton, whom I have known since 1975. Jean was my first introduction to the adoption reform movement, and remains one of the finest, purest voices calling for reform and reconcilliation. I am a birthmother, and
as involved in CUB from the start. Jean has always been supportive of birthparents as well as adoptees, and is an inspiration to us all. She is a true visionary; artist, sculptor, poet, and our own wise woman. Bless you Jean. We love you and thank you for

I have lived 33 years in confidence knowing I was given life twiice, first by my bio-mom (unknown) and by Norman and Judy Burnstein (adoptive parents) Judy, my mom sang to me a song she wrote everynight since my adoption at five mos old. titles "You're my
adopted darling" I always felt loved for having been chosen to live happily two times. Not a day goes by, especially mother's day where I don't stop and take a moment to thank my first mother for bringing me home to my second one. God bless you for having

I am an adoptee who started searching for b/family in 1986. Several times I have just given up in despair because of the system and the lack of me having any rights to my heritage. Was born May 23, 1941 in Washington, DC; birth name: Lee Ann Toten. cont
cted St Ann's in Maryland but they have no record of me ever being there. Was always under the assumption that I was in that home until 1999. have hit roadblock even with the State Social Services. Believe the laws are very unfair to adoptees.

I was adopted at birth. I have spent my life wondering who I was and where my roots began. I was adopted to a wonderful family & of that I am not sorry. My dad was the most wonderful man in the world. He passed away Christmas a year ago & I thought my hea
t would break. He was all I had. So I have decided to look. I may never find my true roots since Florida makes it so diffcult to get closed aoption records opened, but I'll never give up. I have recently have found out that my birth mother was 33 yrs old
hen I was born & the likely hood of her still being alive when I find her is slim, but I'll not give up hope. Thank you for all you have done to pave the way for those of us who feel lost and abandoned. You've given us hope.

Adoptees are suffering due to lack of their medical history and many have died needlessly due to this lack of family history knowledge. It's my hope this will stop and adoptees will be entitled to their medical records and their heritage. This system is K

e cried a lot about having to give me up and my sister knew about me forever. I have been reunited with sister on the phone and plan to visit this July. There are so many selfless mothers who did what they felt would be giving their children a better li
e. Some of us had a better life and some of us didn't but I know my mother Lois June Baudendistal did what she did out of love. And that keeps me going each day.
Many ((hugs))

I thought your site is just beautiful, sad, but beautiful. I believe that all Adoption Records should be OPEN, today, I think Genetic Medical History is of paramount importance. They regard Adoption as "The Mores of the Time" and "In the Best Interest of
he Child" but "In Whose Best Interest" was it. "I wonder", certainly not In the Best Interest of the Mothers" all over the world, Adoption certainly left its trail of destruction.

Mary.

You have done an outstanding job on creating this page... The stories on here bring such tears to my eyes. I have known both birthparents and adoptees who have searched and found their loved one is deceased but I fully believe that the loved one is lookin
down and at peace knowing that they have now been found...

Dixie & Paula, in my previous comments i said I hoped you would soon be reunited with "the Angel." I wanted to make it clear to viewers that the Angel you seek is Dixie's birth daughter, Angel, born 8-16-80 in Oklahoma City.

Paula & Dixie, thank you! Talk about caring, loving, dedication--you two are at the top of the list! Thank you for the many, many hours you spent creating this web site. It has long been Jean Paton's dream, that a memorial be established to those who died
before the chance of being reunited with the ones they lost to adoption. You have also given those who found Death at the End of Their Search a place to try and let those who have not experienced that tragedy know how it hurts. May you two be soon be reu
ited with the "Angel." I will do all I can to make it happen.

Alice,
It is a pleasure working with you.We have had a hard time getting this. It is because of your being a kind and loving person that it all came together.
Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of it and Thank Jean for her dedication to the cause.
Forever Grateful to you both.
