LINK TO NEW YORK STATE ANIMAL HEALTH REQUIREMENT FOR STATE AND COUNTY FAIRS
This page is for parents so you can get an idea of what to expect and how to prepare your child for the 4-H fair. Please read this as it contains important information.  Tattoos,Scrapie ID, registration papers, and how to prepare your child and their goat are very important things that need to be followed to prevent the 4-Her from not being able to show. The animal identification process is a state requirement and if it is not followed the goat(s) cannot be shown. The ***scrapie Identification*** is a big part of the identification process. Even if your kids do not show goats and you have a goat, the scrapie id tattoo/ tag is needed. If The goats are a registered with a breed association and you have registration papers, that will serve as your scrapie identification. If you do not have registration papers then you need to get a premise Id with id tags refer to parent handbook for more information on obtaining tags. If you have registered with usda for a scrapie premise id and have that tattooed in the ear, then that is okay.

If do not have a premise id or white tags, then you would need to go to your vet and get an ag & markets tag (usually metal) this will be your scrapie Id. If you get it from the vet, they need to keep records on your goat for 5 years. Whenever you buy or sell a goat it must contain a scrapie identification via tag or tattoo. You should maintain your own paperwork for at least 5 years as well. This is not just for showing it is for anyone that owns a goat. So Please have the appropriate tattoo/tag, so we don't have you send your child and his/her goat home.
