Ten Wilderness Preparedness Essentials for packing with goats

(taken from the pack goat manual)

These are things that should be in your back pack

 

1. First aid kit -  rubber gloves, gauze bandages, ace bandage or vet wrap, alcohol swabs, band-aids, first aid tape, Soap, needle and tweezers, safety pins, first aid cream, benedryl

 

2. Extra food and water- Energy bars, dried fruit and nuts, crackers, water, water purifying tablets, water bottle

 

3. Map and compass- map should be detailed enough to be of use in the area that you are in, you should know how to use your map and compass to orient yourself

 

4. Tinder kit- waterproof matches, candle, dry tinder.  Store your tinder kit in a waterproof bas or container. 

 

5. Extra Clothing-  Hat, gloves, thick, warm socks, rain gear, warm layers.

 

6. Knife - 

 

7. Whistle & Signal Mirror-  have a pre-arranged distress signal when traveling in groups.

 

8. Toilet paper and trowel

 

9. Space Blanket – One per two people.  Huddle together under space blanket to reflect body heat.  Also used to cover shock victims.

 

10. Flashlight – Carry extra batteries and bulb or more than one flashlight.

 

Other things: sunglasses, camera, sunscreen
