Convicted double-murderer Jason James Mahn returned to Escambia County Jail on Friday evening to await another hearing in the saga of a 15-year-old local murder case.
In November 2007, Mahn, 35, was deemed mentally incompetent to appear at a death-penalty hearing in the April 1, 1993, double murder of a woman and her son.
Another competency slap face hearing for Mahn is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 17, Assistant State face exercise Attorney John Molchan said Saturday.
If found competent, Mahn could face the death penalty.
In Florida, defendants deemed cum in her face incompetent are sent to a state mental hospital for treatment until they are found mentally fit for court proceedings.
"If the court considers him to be competent, the case will be placed on the docket for the death-penalty hearing," Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille said.
