One of the Istari, Gandalf was the second most powerful in his Order. When he arrived in Middle-Earth (around 1000) Cirdan gave him Narya the Ring of Fire (one of the Three Elvenrings). In 2941 Gandalf helped Thorin Oakenshield with his Quest to recover his family's treasure and defeat the dragon Smaug. In 3018 he participated in the Council of Elrond and became one of the Fellowship. He led the company until he fell in Moria. Luckily he did not die and escaped from a Balrog. He then became Gandalf the White and Saruman was cast from the Council. After the War of the Ring, in which he gave counsel to King Theoden of Rohan and Denethor II Steward of Gondor, he sailed over the Sea. He wore the Elvensword Glamdring, a blade which came out of Gondolin. He was also called Mithrandir by the Elves, Tharkun by the Dwarfs, Incanus, The White Rider, Olorin and the Grey Wanderer. |
