In an island community, travelling regularly to meetings can be difficult, and our club's active membership has never been very large. Nowadays, with point and shoot and one-hour processing helping to create the impression that there's nothing to photography, we worry that our members may drop below the viability point ( which we think is about twenty members ). But here we are, and with increasing interest in digital work and image manipulation, here we intend to stay.
In recent years the club has formed a link with the local newspaper publisher, The Orcadian Limited, whose annual calander exclusively features photographs by our members, with considerable benefit to the club's finances. ( This idea might catch on with clubs and local calender publishers throughout the country, if it hasn't already. ) The paper also regularly reports the club's activities.
Orkney Camera Club takes part in competitions and exchanges, both in-house and with other clubs in various parts of the U.K., and is a member of the Scottish Photographic Federation. Our Secretary is Colin Miller, who is pleased to handle enquiries.
