Synopsis:
The Enterprise crew learns of a massive planet destroying entity
has entered Federation space, threatening every planet in the
galaxy. The Enterprise encounters this gaseous entity from
an inhabited planetary sector. Immediately upon there
arrival the entity envelopes the planet Alondra, breaking it into
small pieces in a matter of a few seconds. The Enterprise
pursues the entity on it's
course for Mantilles, inhabited by 100 million people. The
Enterprise is sucked into the entity and threatened with an
antimatter barrage.
Spock discovers that the entity is a living creature with a brain,
he also discovers that they can escape through the top of the
entity if they act quickly. The ships shields are barely
holding them together.
The Enterprise travels through the creature using a power
regeneration system developed by Scotty. Kirk decides the
destroy the Enterprise while inside the creature in order to stop
it. However Spock has another plan to mind meld with the
creature, showing it human life, the creature allows the
Enterprise to escape, and leaves the galaxy.
