Alexandre Moryason's comments on
ìThe Key to the True Kabbalahî
by Franz Bardon
Alexandre Moryason is the French occultist who translated Bardon's three main works into the French language. He added a lot of footnotes/explanations to his translation which are very interesting for every student of magic working with Bardon's system.

Remarks - As with the French edition, there are three consecutive footnote calls and footnotes all numbered 63, on pp. 219, 227 and 234; there are two footnote calls both numbered 37, pp. 86 and 87, but only one corresponding footnote, p. 86; please see footnote 62, p. 217 and check with the English edition to find out whether footnote 62 should not be dropped and the numbering of the later footnotes altered accordingly; same question as to footnote call and footnote numbering given what is reported above on notes 63, 63 and 63, as well as 37 and 37. Will gladly attend to such on request.
Footnotes to "La clÈ de la vÈritable Kabbale"
"T.N." stands for "Translator's Note", which is inscribed in the French edition's footnotes as "NdT". The Translator thus referred to is that who translated the text into French, providing me with my original, French language material.
In this document, the footnotes, translated into English from the actual of the French language edition, are preceded by the word "Page" followed by the number of the page on which they do appear in the French language, that followed by such words or phrases as relevant, immediately preceding the call for a given footnote, thusly: the French word or phrase, then its English rendition, then the call for the footnote. For example, in the French edition's main text on page 11, the words "en elle-mÍmes" are followed by a call for footnote 1 and further down, on page 14, there appear the words "de faÁon symbolique", followed by the call for footnote 2; further down still, on page 21 comes the phrase "la Science des Lettres". So, I write then, "Page 11, "en elles-mÍmes", "in themselves"1. And then, "Page 14, "de faÁon symbolique","in symbolic fashion"2; and, on page 21,"la Science des Lettres", " the Science of letters",3. Following such a statement, there appears, in a distinct paragraph and the order called, any footnote for that page. Footnotes are numbered consecutively throughout the book, from 1 to 65. From this point on, any remark of mine is made like this [in between].

1) T.N.: To conform to what the author himself asserts, we equally constituted two parts. Indeed, in the other editions in foreign languages, we find three parts: the first dealing with theory and both the others with practice.

Page 28, "devenir Dieu incarnÈ", "to become God Incarnate "7.
7) T.N.: "Individuality": This term has a precise meaning with Occultism. It is the Divine Essence, the Immortal Individual Triad. It uses, to manifest itself in the diverse Worlds, the "personality" that is a visible whole constituted of the three dense bodies, physical, astral and concrete mental. The second is (or must be) submitted to the first. Any ill-tuned treatment towards the "personality" (that is the case of the Saint in his excesses) prevents the incarnation or manifestation of the Individuality that is God.

10) T.N.: The Word or the Entirety of the Sounds directing our Universe in its Three Great Stages of Evolution. 21 Sounds govern the Manifested Universe, emanating [from] and returning to A Single Sound (21+1=22). This Perpetual To-and-Fro Movement constitutes the Divine Breathing or Manifestation of the "Great Spirit" (see the 22 "Letters" and the 22 Paths of the Hebraic Kabbalah"; the 22 Major Cards of the Tarot). We are in the 2nd Phase of Evolution (grounded in the Love Aspect of the Deity -- "God is Love" said St John) and 12 Sounds dominate now (5 from the preceding Phase and 7 from the current Phase); the 9 others vibrate, but with a power of "reflection" of the Phase to come, by anticipation. Franz Bardon studies 28 Sounds or Letters but some among them are but variants of others.

Page 35, "du Mouvement, lequel est condensation, matÈrialisation et rÈalisation", "of the Movement, which is condensation, materialization and realization"11.
11) T.N.: The word "Movement" is of capital significance in the Initiatory Doctrine; it represents the Deity's manifestation: Indeed, when Divine Providence expresses Itself, manifests Itself, It does so by the Movement that offsets universal "Inertia" and that canalizes Life. Three types of Movement mark the Universe, each ruling one of the Three Phases of Cosmic Evolution:
1 - Rotary that governs Matter and gives the spheroidal direction to any form of existence (see the cell);
2 - In an ascending spiral to which is submitted the Evolution of Consciousness;
3 - In a push forward into the Inifinite Space that underlies the Universe's evolutive entirety.

12) T.N.: Franz Bardon does not involve in his judgment on the Secret Societies the Society of Rosicrucians nor certain Masonic Lodges for there exists a document written by Him and dated from January 27, 1954 where he signs "F. Bardon Initiator, R+C" which means "Initiator Rosicrucis"Ö

13) T.N.: This sentence of the Author does not mean that in practice should be effected exercises of concentration, visualization and activation of fire by the breath, on that centre (Muladhara). On the contrary, those are the higher Centres, those that are located above the diaphragm (heart, throat and the diverse centres of the head) that must be "worked" first, notably that of the heart. Paradoxically it is this development of the higher Centres that allows the transfer of the fires of the lower Centres (those that are located below the diaphragm) to the higher Centres and which generates therefore the Kundalini harmonious Awakening process.

14) T.N.: Those of the Aryavarta, those regions of the North of India where settled the Aryas, (etymologically: "the Sons of the Light", from the Indo-European root *ar- which means fire, light) well before the end of Atlantis, around 850,000 years B.C.. They owned the Hermetic Knowledge, before Egypt therefore, which was an Atlantean colony then sanctuary land of the Aryas. It is the sanskrit word "misr" designating Egypt , that gave rise to that other word "misraim", "the Sons of Egypt", used later.

16) T.N.: On the subtle planes, invisible indeed, but well enough real and active, the feet constitute the exiting door of a being's most noxious density. The perturbed, even very negative (the demons) elements, leave by that door. If they leave therefrom, they also have their seat there. To work kabbalistically and without purification as a preliminary amounts to giving way to streams of mud (and the word is weak). Schizophrenia is the fact that those destructive entities and energies invade and devastate the whole personality.
_________________________________________________________________________________
Page 56, "quelque chose partir de rien", "something from nothing"17.
17) T.N.: Nothing does not have here the meaning of "nothingness". It means that the cause that is to produce the wished for effect on the mental, astral or physical planes has not been created yet and that the Kabbalist is going to generate it. However, that creation is possible but because there exist, to begin with, the materials allowing it :
1 - The Universal Substance that shall be moulded by the Kabbalist,
2 - The latter's Consciousness which therefore "exists" also in the Universe,
3 - The Divine Spirit Who rules everything and Who is going to act through a Consciousness (the Kabbalist's). "Nothingness", in the Cosmic Reality, does not exist.

19) T.N.: It should be specified now already that different contradictions could be noticed by the reader as to the items of information given by the Author on the Elements acting in each Letter. That contradiction is only apparent. Despite the clear exposition that is made of it, this subject matter is very complex. In fact, in must be kept in mind that Electricity and Magnetism are produced the one from the other and that this play of alternating manifestation happens on all the planes of existence. Each of the Elements therefore contains the other Three under a particular form of expression and according to the following proportions: an "atom" of Ether is constituted of 1/2 of Ether and of 1/8 of each of the other Elements; an "atom" of Fire is constituted of 1/2 of Fire, 1/8 of Ether and of 1/8 of each of the three other Elements (Air - Water - Earth). These proportions are found in an "atom" of Air, of Water and of Earth. The kabbalistic Tree shall be a precious support of meditation as to the Circulation of the Elements and as to the reflection of a Sphere or Sephira -- linked to a dominant Element -- into another located on the same Pillar.

24) T.N.: What is involved is the letter that is found in the German "ich" which is an aspirate velar occlusive, according to the definitions of phonetics. It is the Greek "chi" () of "Christos". [The abovementioned Berlitz manual, on its page 2, says that it is "an aspirated, guttural and prolonged <<k>>"]. Not to be confused with the French "ch" as in "chat" [French word. Not to be confused with the English "sh" as in"shall"].

31) T.N.: Pronounced like an "F" sliding over the "V".
32) T.N.: Pronounced as in "variable" and not as the English "water" (vouaÖ)[as in "avail" in English"].
33) T.N.: Pronounced as in "jupe"[French word]. In the original German edition, what is involved is the "Umlaut ¸" which effectively is pronounced in German like the French "u" in "jupe" The English edition transcripted as "y", which is erroneous [Berlitz states on page viii: "The Umlaut ¸ is equivalent to the French "U" and is pronounced by pursing the lips as to whistle and saying <<EE>>". The "¸" (old spelling "ue") in the name of the German city of L¸beck (Luebeck) uses that same sound for "u". For the Canadian reader, the "u" involved is the same as in the name "Trudeau"].
34) T.N.: Are involved here the German Umlauts and which are pronounced "eu" [French sound; or as in the "oe" of "Goethe"] and "È" respectively [Berlitz, page viii, suggests "ay" for " " and "uh" for ""].

Page 86, "transfÈrant les Lettres, une une, dans l'organe impliquÈ", "transferring the Letters, one by one, into the organ involved"37.
37) T.N.: It behooves [us] to know that the attributes of a Letter, that is to say of a Kabbalistic Sound, are relative to this Solar System, to this Phase of Evolution of our Universe (2nd Phase). That means that, in the later Phase, the attributes, the powers and the qualities of a Sound shall be other -- while maintaining a logical vibratory link with the preceding Sounds --. Moreover, the evolving Sound, therefore bringing the manifested Universe with Itself, tends to the high-pitched; this explains that a flattened Sound is not represented in general Kabbalistically for in that case one would be inclining towards a regression. A Sharp One means a Power under evolutive mutation. Finally, one shall notice that the E note is absent from this description. Indeed, E is musically the "mediative one" of the major C E G tune on which our Solar Logos now vibrates; G canalizes the Quality which it must fully develop in Its Egoic Aspect, in Its Solar Fire (the Air, and therefore the Letter "A"); C, at a very inferior octave, canalizes the attributes of Its etheric matter (Its veritable matter and in which our physical bodies are woven; F being the note of the dense matter, inherited from the evolution of the preceding Solar System); C at a very high octave canalizes the Spiritual Fire of our Logos, Its Monadical Fire, the purest Spirit and it is therefore the Letter "SH" , enunciated on an extremely high-pitched C, which manifests that Power; E is the synthesizing note of Its Expression (which corresponds to the human personality) and results from the co-operation of several Sounds or Powers. Being therefore the Note of the Personality of our Logos, that is to say a Note synthesizing our Universe's relatively dense forces, E corresponds to no Power in particular but to several.

38) T.N.: "The Water of Kabbalistic Life". This Latin title reveals this chapter's essential meaning well. Indeed, the Fire Element with the visualization of the colour has been involved in the kabbalistic process; then Air with the musical note having to be heard inwardly or even sung if the loud voice is necessary; comes therefore in this chapter Water, characterizing feeling and sensation; this means that without the latter, therefore without Water, manifested life is impossible. This is why in this chapter shall be divulged how to complete the preceding exercises through giving "Life", that is to say, "Water" to the Kabbalistic Word..

39) T.N.: That sentence was not translated in the English Edition while it does indeed figure in the original German Edition.
40) T.N.: There is no contradiction with what precedes (B=Water). Not to be forgotten that the elemental cycle is very complex ; thus is "Water's Fire" talked about or "Earth's Water", etc. Ö

42) T.N.: Is not pronounced "i" as in "pyromane"[French word pronounced "peeroman"] but indeed "u" as in "jupe" [As in the "¸ in "L¸beck" or the "u" in "Trudeau". See T.N. 33 above.].

47) T.N.: What is involved is the "theosophical reduction"; thus is, for example 21 reduced to 3 for 2 + 1= 3. Not to be confused with "theosophical addition", an operation which consists in adding, for a given number, all the numbers going from 1 to that number; example: 3 gives in addition 6 for 1 + 2 + 3 = 6; 6 is considered as "the secret value" of 3.

Page 138, "le <<K>> et le <<S>>."53
53) T.N.: The "SH" is "the Pure Electrical Fire of the Supreme Spirit", called equally 1st Logos or "Shiva"; It springs forth from the Non Manifested and expresses immediately the Absolute Power from Whom all emanates and towards Whom all returns (third Phase of Cosmic Evolution). The "K" is the "Solar Fire" or "Fire of Consciousness", or still IInd Logos, also called "Vishnu"; He is Absolute Love (Second Phase of Cosmic Evolution). The Fire inherent to the Cosmic Substance is that of the IIIrd Logos or "Brahama", canalized by the "S"; He is the Absolute Intelligence in activity. The Three Universal Fires, SH, K and S, or otherwise said, Shiva, Vishnu and Brahama, are the sacred Trimurti of the Hindus, that is to say the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost respectively. Those Three Fires, in the development of their manifestation, are "perceived" as Fire, Air and Water respectively and symbolized -- still respectively -- by Shin, Aleph, Mem.

54) T.N.: What is involved is the Buddhic plane of our solar system -- plane of the Knowledge and of the Pure Intuition -- the dense reflection of which is the astral plane, of watery a nature and conveying the feeling of love. Buddhi is therefore indeed in profound resonance with the astral plane; in consequence the veritable Intuition is manifested in Love and, conversely, Love opens the doors of Knowledge, of Intuition.

Page 195, "sera alors transfÈrÈ dans sa vie prÈsente", "shall then be transferred into his current life."58.
58) T.N.: The Karmic Law, in its full Wisdom, does not oblige an individual to assume in a single life the negative load resulting from numerous past incarnations. It awaits the awakening of the conscience of the concerned person and according to the latter's structure in the three inferior -- mental, astral and physical -- worlds, according therefore to what he can withstand and understand (this word is very important), it causes him to face certain readjustment trials. To assume in a single life a great part of the past Karma would amount to undoing the structure of the human personality that would really collapse under that burden.

Page 202, "la LumiËre dans toutes ses variantes possibles", "Light in all its possible variants."59.
59) T.N.: In the whole manifested Universe, Light results from the "friction: of the Divine Spirit, Supreme Fire or Electricity and of Space, Supreme Magnetism or Water. That Light is the grounding of what shall become little by little "the Consciousness". In consequence, faith, the orientation of the being towards the Divine Providence, hinges on the quantity and on the quality of Light accumulated in oneself, in other terms, on the development of the Consciousness. It arouses the Supreme Illumination and is particularly useful to solve problems requiring inspiration's input. It constitutes a universal for the intellect's clarity. On account of the fact that this Formula increases the religious feeling, as that was mentioned, any word, any desire, used mentally through it, shall be realized in our three-dimensionality by the action of the Elements involved.

Page 213, "prÈvalant sur l'ensemble des 7 plans d'existence", "prevailing over the whole of the 7 planes of existence."60.
60) T.N.: These 7 Cosmic planes receive in Occultism the following names (from bottom to top): Etherico-physical, Astral, Mental, Buddhic, Atomic, Monadical, Adical. Each of them is subdivided into 7 sub-planes receiving the same names (example: astral sub-plane of the Cosmic Mental plane ). We evolve in consciousness as well as the Greatest Beings involved in our development, on the densest cosmic plane -- the universal etherico-physical -- and what we call astral and mental are in fact the astral and mental sub-planes of this Great Cosmic Physical Plane. The 7 planes to which applies the "ERJ" Formula are in fact the 7 sub-planes constituting the framework of our evolution. Indeed, the latter [once] reached, the being having become a Perfect Adept, leaves to evolve in the Cosmic Astral where applies quite another distribution of the Analogies linked to the Sounds.

63) T.N.: The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn confides the name of that Elemental King of the Earth: Ghob, in adding to it an "h", Letter bearing the Fire inherent to Water. The determination complexity of the Elements is great; however, it can be said in simplifying that "G-O-B" rules the very dense aspect of the Earth (therefore the Gnomes liable to densify themselves and to appear easily in Ritual) while "O-W-U" applies itself to governing the akashic (etheric) and igneous aspect of that Element (therefore of the subtler earthy elementals, the bearers notably of matter's electricity).

63) T.N.: Great material Plane: the exact synonymous expression would be "Cosmic Substance" or "Universal Living Space". Indeed, the Universe kneads itself in that One and Universal Substance, divided into 7 Great Planes, going from extreme subtlety to the greatest density. The notion of quantity applies to the Substance used as a form to be put into activity by a certain quality. That is why in the following pages the notion of "Cosmic Substance" shall replace the word "quantity" sometimes.

64) T.N.: It will be possible to take note of an apparent contradiction: Indeed, the Names of Mercury's Intelligences do constitute and do not constitute the Schem-Ham-Phoras. The key of that Mystery's understanding resides in the fact that we tune into our Solar System (and therefore the Divine Aspects involved by the differents Names of God) via the Sphere of Hod-Mercury. We see, without knowing it, the Universe through that mercurian prism. 72 Intelligences govern that Sphere [and] by them are manifested 72 Divine Powers; thus, for us, does God appear to receive only 72 Names. Actually, the Schem-Ham-Phoras, as the entirety of the Divine Powers of the whole of our Solar System's Three Great Evolution Phases (we are in the Second of them) gathers 777 Synthesized Divine Names (F. Bardon's preceding book gives 696 of them) , all governed by 21 Cosmic Sounds, the 22nd being the key of all (see the 22 "Letters" of the Hebraic Kabbala, etc. Ö); the current Evolution Phase being involved (on the Note of Love) 7 Sounds rule it; these, united to the 5 of the preceding Evolution but still active give 12 Sounds currently in force with which rest all the Divine Names in their current activity; the 9 other Sounds act "in silent partner-like fashion", in "anticipation" of the following Phase because nothing of what exists is separate from anything else in the Universe.
