This page is dedicated to the work done on a custom fretless bass, my first homemade instrument.  I originally was going to use the body (pictured below) in place of the body I have on my current bass, a Peavey Axcelorator.  However, at the coaxing of a few people (my brother one of them), I decided to do a whole new bass with new parts.  The wood for the body was purchased on April 17th, of 2001 and is Birdseye Maple, a  hard wood that should provide for a good amount of sustain.

I will add pictures of the progress as they become available.
As of May 16, 2002, the following picture shows the parts for the bass.  A Bartolini 72MV5E with a preamp including pots for volume, bass, mid, and treble.  A Warmoth Gecko neck, with a 35" scale, 24 fret neck, with a wood inlay of a gecko (in ebony) around the 12th to 15th fret.  The neck is fretless, with ebony inlayed lines.  Gold hardware.  The black colored sections of the body will be cut off.

On June 13th, 2003, my custom bass project was completed when the electronics were hooked up by an expert repair man at Springfield Music.  The pictures below are of the finished project.  The wood was given 4-5 coats of lindseed oil, then after it dried, polyurethane was put on for protection.  With truss rod tightened [neck straightened], hardware put on, and electronics working, this project is done!!  Everyone has liked it very much and have said that it sound awesome.  The Bartolini pickup makes it a hot bass to play.  It has a pretty fat low end as well as the 'mwah' sound, especially when playing in the upper registry.

The addition of the inlay down the centerline of the bass was to hide the neck pickup routing.  It is a piece of Bolivian Rosewood and was the most intricate part of the project to make correctly.  I have to give thanks to God that it turned out as well as it did.  Also, thanks to Dan Caringer for his help on the body of the bass.  His help, and the use of his dad's workshop were what made this project a success!  Thanks, Dan!!!!!  :-)
