Extreme Makeover -
     Bass Adition
The make over will be to a Peavey Axcelorator 5-string bass guitar that I purchased in 1997.  First, I'd like to say that Peavey makes a very fine bass guitar, and this makeover in no way suggests that the instrument is not good.  In fact, the electronics and neck will go unchanged.  This bass has an 18 volt active preamp as well as a fine neck that I find quite comfortable.  I'm making it over only because I personally prefer a natural wood finish over a painted one.  Though, I MAY at some time replace the electronics [preamp and pickups] to favor a more Jazz style of sound.

A short bit of history on this bass.   The bass was purchased in 1997 from a store that was no longer going to be selling instruments in order to focus more on sound equipement exclusively.  At that time, I was in the market for a bass, particularly a 5 string bass [I was D tuning a 4 string bass] and didn't have a lot of money to spend on a new bass.  However, at this shop were  new 5 string basses selling for half off of the original price.  There were three that were being displayed, all metalic with one being red, one blue, and one purple [which I saw as the less obtrusive of the color selections].  Even then, I prefered a natural wood color but the price was right on this new Peavey, so I purchased it.  .

Update:

4/28/04, wood was purchased.  Spanish Cedar.  May not be a good choice, normally, being a soft wood, but I'm very careful with my instruments.  The selection I purchased has some very interesting 'tiger strip' looking figuring to it and should prove to be a nice top.

The redesigning of the body and head was also accomplished, though some tweaking may take place until the final desicion is made.  Click 'Next' to see more.
