Westmoreland Research

In 2004, I approached Mike Constandy of Westmoreland Research with a request for copies of documentation from captured Nazi personnel files on microfilm housed at the National Archives (NARA II) in College Park, Maryland. I required this information for my current project on Generals of the SS and German Police, as well as another project on the leaders of the SA (Sturmabteilung / Storm Troops). My list of names was quite long, and the quantity of document scans needed was considerable. Nevertheless, Mike promptly gleaned the necessary documents from the microfilm. Having done this myself on a 2001 research trip at NARA, I am well aware that this is no easy task; one must perform the fascinating- though at times mind-numbing- task of scrolling through literally thousands of documents, arranged alphabetically by officer name (not by rank- in other words, one must sift through almost countless lower-ranking officers to get to the material on the generals). By the end of the project, Mike had gathered upwards of 500 pages of invaluable biographical material which assisted me in creating the most comprehensive and accurate manuscripts yet prepared on my subjects of interest.

A respected member of the historical research and militaria collecting communities, both on- and offline., Mr. Constandy is a tremendous asset to researchers, authors, and genealogists, professional and amateur alike. I strongly recommend his research services.

Sincerely yours,

From the website of Westmoreland Research, at http://www.westmorelandresearch.org/about.htm

Westmoreland Research was chartered in 1994 to facilitate public access to the wealth of information held by the National Archives, and has grown in breadth to encompass the national and military collections of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and the Republics of the former Soviet Union. Over the years, WR has established many rewarding relationships with veteran's organizations from all major combatant nations and therefore has access to an unprecedented number of resources held in public, military, and private collections.

WR provides data on a wide range of topics from relatively simple personnel research to the identification of aircraft sixty years after being downed in combat. Our clients vary from relatives of veterans hoping to know more about a loved ones contribution, to governments trying to clarify history as it developed on their soil.

WR has become involved in asset restitution and recovery issues from the Second World War. These projects have led to excavations and dives in Germany, Austria, and Italy.

Contact WR today to discuss your research requirements. There is no obligation.
