-Minister of Defense, Latvia: 1924-25 & 1928-29. Retired

1920's.
-Cdr. of a division, then a corps, and finally an army
group of Admiral Koltchak's White Russian Army (which he
joined in 1917). Returned to Latvia with the fall of that
Army.
-Colonel in command of 17th Siberian Rifle Regiment,
Czarist Russian Army: WW I.
-Russian Staff College: Graduated, 1914.
-Served in Czarist Russian Army, Russo-Japanese War,
1904-1905.
Notes:
Arrested by British Intelligence agents, 21. Jun. 1945,
after denunciation by another Latvian as a "Nazi."
Confined to room at Hotel-Restaurant Bleiche, Goslar.
Interned in Goslar jail from 2. Jul., then transferred to
prison in Braunschweig. From there, sent to POW camp,
Westertimke, 19. Jul., then to POW camp, Sandbostel, 23.
Jul. Transferred from Sandbostel, 20. Nov. 1945, and moved
to POW camp for Latvians, Westerbuhr, Aurich county,
Friesland. Released from confinement, 25. Dec. 1945,
settling at Displaced Persons Camp, Oldenburg.

In 1914 Artur Silgailis volunteered for military
service, was accepted at the Military College of Vilna, and
on 13 September 1915 was commisioned as an officer in the
Czarist Russian Army.His military service contiued with the
426th. Infantry Regiment and in the summer of 1916 it was
transferred to Finland and subordinated to the Commander of
the Baltic Fleet and stationed at Helsinki as the garrison
of the Navy fortress Sweabourg. (to be continued).
