Magazine Malaysia Web Design Competition 2004
Event Date : March - May 2004
Website Theme : Tourism Malaysia
Format : no restrictions
My plan :
To create a flash based site that looks clean but yet with interactive
features and not only with visual but audio are in works.
Objective :
To create my first ever complete site and bringing it into competition
level. A shot at the taste of the WWW life but it was not only for simple
"Hello World" feeling but rather a window of opportunity that much
experience could be gain from it. My site aims to give a good overall
experience.
Stage 1 : The initial idea
The initial idea of my website theme was derived from the terminal boards
found in airport terminals. Was on the look for high quality taken pictures
of terminals boards on the net but came out with no luck. So instead I
went to the airport myself and took pictures of airport scene's, mainly on
billboards, signs and also open spaces and as well as object oriented
themes.
The pictures came in, to my despair as the pictures did not turn out to be
what I wanted, darn , too bad...really would have made good use of them but
in the end I resorted to one of Malaysia's famous landmark, the supreme
court for my index page and for the flash content I designed my own
navigation board.
Stage 2 : Content
The scope of my project would not be a big one, in terms of the depth of the
tourism but instead I focused on an interactive feel rather than a in-depth
site. So visual content and transactions flows are important. Only a few
places are handpicked and because of the lack of time, my work could not be
furnish as well as it could and capable of. The color coordination and
layout are planned and retuned accordingly. Pictures are an important aspect
in my site. Words and colors alone don't make much of a great site. So most
of my time were taken up by picture findings, I am only tempt on high
quality pictures.
Stage 3 : Furnishing and
overall experience
Souring the template of the design and contents made me did adjustments to
where I see fit. From the objects to sound presentation. Although my final
product is not flawless due to the time constraints as A 10days before
deadline I was in Australia and on the day of the deadline was also the day
of my final exams. Juggling between studies and web designing has made that
period of time, a daunting one. The furnishing of the site only took 1 day
as time was running short
Stage 4 : In the end
At the end of the timeline, I had both ups and downs but to my happiness,
this was one great experience. After compiling the whole .fla and uploading
the site and lastly handing up the website address to the organizers, I
found relief and was in hope of winning something. Results will only
submerge only after 3 weeks later.
Stage 5 : 3 weeks later...
I received a miss call one afternoon, the caller leaved a voice message
behind. Hearing a woman's voice, I try to recall if it was any of my friends
but no, but upon hearing her say that she's from PC Magazine Malaysia, I
know then , I am in for something good. = ) . "Congratulations, you have won
the 5th Prize in the PC Magazine Web Design Contest !" . speechless.
