Liz Scott
Liz Scott teaches print journalism and basic communications writing skills -- from How to Write a Postcard to Winning Your
Pulitzer Through Dynamic Investigation Journalism.

She's a columnist for New Orleans Magazine, and author of two nationally published humor books. Her humor column, written
under the name of Modine Gunch, has reaped numerous awards, both national and local -- most recently best column by the
Press Club of New Orleans at its 1999 awards ceremony.

She also does stories about both local history and current events for New Orleans and other publications. In December she visited
Africa and Egypt and wrote a travel piece for  Prime Quarterly Magazine.

Scott's most important duty is that of advising the University's award-winning newspaper,The Loyola Maroon. The goal of both the
staff and the adviser is fair and accurate reporting, as well as good writing and presentation. The paper actually serves as a
learning laboratory for its staff, since most plan careers in journalism, and the students dedicate much time and energy toward
producing a pithy publication that captivates campus readers. Many of staff members also intern at the city's daily, The
Times-Picayune, which recently won a Pulitzer Prize for a series on the world's fisheries. One of the four reporters who wrote the
series is Bob Marshall, who started out in journalism as a staff writer, and later became an editor, of The Maroon.
