Excerpt from the Epic Cycle
'The Dance of the battle for Heaven'.
* From the Elven language:
Before the dawn of time, before the ending of what was.
Once, before the great divide, we lived in homes of wood.
Once, when All was One, we hunted with crude weapons. But
The God, whose name may now never be spoken, (even in a whisper)
Took pity upon the people, because he loved them.
He taught them the ways of song and dance, of stone and woodlore. But
Khaine, the bloody handed, discovered what had occurred.
Khaine, with battle lust, attacked the happy God.
Khaine, of the flashing eyes, tore heaven from hearth and home, but
The God, whose name may now never be spoken, (even in a whisper)
Danced and dove, because he was ashamed.
And Khaine in his rage:
Threatened the home of the Gods
Even the Vault of Heaven, so
Asuryan, Who is King, communed with fate,
Asuryan, whose Word is Law, declared his will.
Asuryan, who rules from Heaven, enforced a peace. But
The God, whose name may now never be spoken, (even in a whisper)
Did not trust Khaine, because Khaine's nature is cruel.
So the God, in his wisdom, sang a song of creation,
And danced a dance of soul binding. Thus
Endobai, Eagle of Heaven was created.
Endobai, who never sleeps, and sees forever,
Endobai, who guarded his master while he slept. And
The God, whose name may now never be spoken, (even in a whisper)
Loved his creation, because they were as one.
Together they hunted and ran and all Heaven was at peace.
Except Khaine, who waited. Until
Slaanesh, consuming heaven, devoured all the living Gods,
Slaanesh, who is CHAOS, scattered Khaine,
Slaanesh, who is (but is not), stood to conquer all. But
The God, whose name may now never be spoken, (even in a whisper)
Challenged the Beast, and they fought for a thousand years.
Endobai pecked and clawed, while his God's spear danced, and
Slaanesh screamed and wailed. Until, exhausted,
The God was bested and Slaanesh bent to consume him.
Khaine, in a thousand parts, wailed, for all was lost. But
Endobai, Eagle of Heaven, flew between, and was consumed instead.
His God, escaped to the Web that is Eternal, and Slaanesh was thwarted.
Khaine, in a thousand parts, smiled, for all was not lost, and
Endobai, (who sees forever), pecks at the gizzard of Slaanesh for eternity.
And the God, whose name is never spoken, (even in a whisper), lives forever.
