Our family had returned to Tennessee from Arizona with a new member,
Hiram. I had
once again been laid of due to the economy, and we decided we
could live cheaper
in Tennessee, since we had not sold our home there. We also
decided to begin
visiting Trinity Assembly of God in Decaturville, TN. Even
though it was about
70 miles from our home in Giles County, we had heard that
they had a bus ministry,
like Tommy Barnett’s church in Phoenix, where we had
served as bus ministers.
We also had heard that Trinity was very unique, with a
unique history.
It was a church that seated more people then the entire town, and
was often filled.
Our first Sunday at Trinity we enjoyed spirited worship and preaching.
Leia
was sent to get
her brother from the nursery. We remained in the sanctuary
meeting people.
When Leia returned with Hiram, and he had learned a new
word, Bible.
He now knew mama, dada, and Bible. We were just about to leave
when a little old
country lady came up to greet us.
I don’t remember her name, she has probably passed on to be with the Lord,
but I will
never forget that day. She was small, and looked like she probably
had
never had much in
material wealth, but that lady must have had tremendous
spiritual wealth.
She said the Lord had given her a word for us, and as she
began to speak,
all of us, even little Hiram, felt the power of God. As she spoke
Sally and I were
overcome with weeping and the kids stood perfectly quiet in awe.
She told us things
about ourselves that only God could have told her, and she
told us how God
was going to use all of us for His glory. It was another of those
special experiences
we will never forget. It proved to us that God does
sometimes use prophesy
to encourage and strengthen His people.
