We dedicate this website to John Quay , who worked at the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum, Florence,OR and founded the John Quay Heritage Players. John is Nancy Weiler's father and a history buff, he has inspired Nancy and myself to record the happenings on Hwy 36 with this webpage and with scrapbooks which we keep along with the many brooklets that John gave Nancy, which are at Eat at Joe's Cafe, Lowpass, Hwy 36, Oregon.

Oregon Hwy 36 run west from US Hwy 99 [just south of Junction City] to Mapleton [which is the intersection of hwy 36 & hwy126]. Then follows the 20 plus miles on Hwy 126 to the Oregon Coast at Florence. The communities along Oregon Hwy 36 have lots of happenings, some of which you can visit from this page. My hope is that in sharing with you our communities, we will bring back memories of good old times and introduce you to our counrty [rural] way of living.

Siuslaw Pioneer Museum is located one mile south of the Florence bridge at milepost 192, on Highway 101. Open 10:am to 4:pm. Closed Mondays and Easter, Thanksgiving, the month of December, and New Year's Day. Historic pictures and information about the Siuslaw River area and the City of Florence. Wonderful artifacts of the early pioneers in these areas on display. The Kyle Memorial Research Library is a separate room in the Museum building. It houses a collection of files and documents that are catalogued in it's own computerized system for easy reference. Volunteers are able to provide geneologicals information regarding our pioneer families. Many of these files are open only to direct decendants and family members. There are many other files regarding the historyof Florence and the central coast that are available for students and other serious researchers. The Museum annually publishes a booklet, "The Siuslaw Pioneer" on the history of the siuslaw area.
