Acceptable Conditions of Work: the current monthly national minimum wage rate for workers over 21 is BF44,209 ($1,142); 18-year-olds can be paid 82 percent of the minimum, 19-year-olds 88 percent and 20-year-olds 94 percent. The Ministry of Labor effectively enforces laws regarding minimum wages, overtime and worker safety. By law, the standard workweek cannot exceed 40 hours and must include at least one 24-hour rest period. Comprehensive provisions for worker safety are mandated by law. Collective bargaining agreements can supplement these laws.
