Signing
of the Ketubah, bedeken, and the Wedding Ceremony
|

|
Our Ketubah
and Rabbi Dobrusin. The
Ketubah is a legal document instituted over two thousand
years ago. Today, the ketubah remains an essential part
of the Jewish marriage. The ketubah stresses Justin and
Rebekah's responsibilities to each other and the
marriage. The ketubah becomes binding with the signature
of two witnesses. |
|
Justin
signs the ketubah with his sister Callie, bride Rebekah,
and Rabbi Dobrusin looking on. |

|
The
word "bedeken" comes from the Yiddish word
meaning "to cover". During this final act
before the wedding ceremony, Justin places the veil over
Rebekah's face. This is the last time Justin will
"see" Rebekah until they have exchanged rings
and are married. |
|
The
chuppah or canopy symbolizes the home that Justin and
Rebekah will build together -where they will raise
their children and grow old together. |

|
My
Aunt Sandra brought her little keyboard the whole way
from Pennsylvania in the trunk of the car just so we
could have some music! For
the procession of the wedding party she played
"Trumpet Voluntaire" and for the entrance of
the bride she played "Trumpet Tune" - both
composed by Jeremiah Clarke. For
the recessional she played "Take Me Out To The
Ballgame" *giggles*

Mum-mum
Rebekah and bride Rebekah.
For
her "something old" to wear at the wedding,
Rebekah wore the bracelet that was given to her Mum-mum
Rebekah on the occasion of her high school graduation in
1940.

The
music that you hear playing on these pages is a special
arrangement of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" that was
written especially for Justin & Rebekah by Aunt Sandra.
The
bouquet you see on each page is Rebekah's actual bouquet that
she carried for the wedding.
