My Heart Will Go On

As Han Solo sat across from her at the table, Leia Organa felt peaceful and happy, despite her uneasyness since landing on Bespin. They laughed over their dinner at Han's story of how he and Chewbacca had once stolen a new navigation system right under the Imperials' noses. Suddenly, they were in an expanse of darkness. They were holding each other when out of the mist came a black figure that Leia knew only too well. Then Han was being pulled away from her, catching her hand as he was pulled. If she could only keep her hold on his hand, she thought, it would be all right. But his fingers slipped from hers and he vanished into the dark. Leia searched for him, but found a different figure, and as he loomed over her, she could hear Han call her name, reassuring her of his presence. Then she woke up, sitting bolt upright in her bed. All she could do was bury her face in her hands and sob.

Luke grinned as he announced that the good news was that Han had been finally found. Leia could barely suppress a cry of joy at that. Then she thought to ask carefully, "What's the bad news?" Luke took a deep breath. "The bad news is that he's already in Jabba's palace." *Now we will rescue Han,* Chewie growled. Leia said, "Get ready. We leave immedietly." Actually, that command was just an excuse for Leia to hurry to her quarters. Safely inside, she collapsed into her chair, on the brink of more tears. They had found Han! They had found him! That thought echoed in Leia's mind for ten minutes, until she finally realized that unless she got ready, they couldn't leave. But as she prepared, she felt the first glimmer of hope in half a year. She knew that her heart would survive, for he would soon be with her again.

Leia looked around. The now familiar misty darkness was back. Leia clung more tightly to Han, knowing what was coming. 'No, please!', she begged in her mind. 'Don't take him from me again!' But, as always, the black figure came. As always, Han was pulled from her arms and caught her hand. Then, something new happened. Han's hand was not pulled from hers as usual. Instead, their entwined hands glowed with a pulsing energy. The glow spread, and the dark figure disintegrated. Then the glow vanished, but Leia was no longer afeared of the darkness as Han pulled her to him and kissed her. Then Leia woke up. She lay in her bunk, keeping her eyes closed to keep the dream in her mind.

Leia picked Han up from the ground. He was soaked and shivering in her arms. Leia's heart broke as Han asked why he couldn't see, he sounded so confused, but that emotion was drowned out by her overwhelming joy and love. So distracted was she that when Han asked who she was, she didn't think. Now, she knew that she should just say, "A friend," and get them out of there. But at that moment it seemed that even if caught, nothing could hurt either of them so she removed her helmet and answered him, "Someone who loves you,", and, taking his face in her hands, kissed him. Later she would regret choosing that moment to do so. But for now, she simply exulted in this not being a dream.
