Net Name: Beckyes
Real Name: Becky Sims
Email address: [email protected]
Web Page address(?): haven't gotten *that* far with html yet
From: I like to think of Santa Rosa Calif as home, though I haven't
actually *lived* there yet -- right now we're in Omaha Nebraska,
having recently moved here from Hawaii.
Occupation: Librarian
Age: 41
Height: 5'1"
Hair (color and length): Light brown, with gold/red highlights when I
get some sun
Eyes: hazel, though I wear blue contacts so I can find them when I
drop them!
Marital Status: married to a Naval Officer, with a six-year old boy
Fav Books (other than SW): 'Pride & Prejudice,' Georgette Heyer
('Sylvester or The Wicked Uncle,' 'The Quiet Gentleman'), Anne McCaffrey
(esp Killashandra, Pern, & Rowan series), Dick Francis, Cynthia Rylant
(*wonderful* children's books -- 'Miss Maggie' is hard to find, but it's
worth the search; if you can't find that, try 'When I Was Young In the
Mountains,' 'When the Relatives Came,' or one of my favorites for young adults,
an incredibly beautiful, moving war story with some of the best
writing I've ever seen -- 'I Had Seen Castles'), also May Sarton's poetry.
Has anyone else read 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'?
Fav movies (other than SW): Sleepless in Seattle, Time Runner
(actually it's rather poorly put together, but I love Mark Hamill,
and this is a great part for him), Steel Magnolias, Singin' In the
Rain, and in the oldies but goodies catagory, Casablanca, Gone With
the Wind, and Lawrence of Arabia
Fav TV shows: I don't watch much TV these days and [gasp!] have
never actually found the time to watch an entire episode of Friends,
ER, or the X-Files. I tend to watch reruns of shows that were on
when I *did* have time to watch TV (80s & early 90s), otherwise I
will occasionally watch Voyager, DS9, or Babylon 5 (if I can figure
out when they're on!).
Fav kinds of music: Being a music major in college exposed me to
entirely too many wonderful pieces of music to list here, though I'm
partial to Brahms, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Shostokovich. In
current stuff I like a little bit of almost every style except rap &
stuff that's all drums and noise to the point you can't hear the
words. I particularly like The Gipsy Kings (pop flamenco?), George
Strait (ever since 'Pure Country'), and Keali'i Reichel (Hawaiian).
When did you first become a SW fan?: I liked the first SW when I saw
it in the theater (original release), but I think I became a true
blue fan during the Hoth battle. I found myself thinking that these
guys just never gave up on what they believe in, and that really
struck home with me.
First time to see ANH: original release
First time to see ESB: original release
First time to see ROTJ: original release (and if you think it wasn't
hard waiting THREE YEARS to find out if Han would be okay!!!)
Total No. of times to see all the films: umm... I'm not sure even
Threepio could count that high.
Fav SW movie: ESB -- at least that's the one I find myself sticking
in the VCR all the time. I know a lot of people find the Yoda stuff
boring, but I'm amazed at how good Mark Hamill is at making you
believe these robots and puppets are real. I also LOVE the music and
think the writing and the story are the best in this episode (esp.
the Han-Leia dialogue).
Fav SW book: Children of the Jedi, by Barbara Hambly. The first time
I read it I just wanted to get on with the story, but the more I read
it, the more I love the way she writes. ("Accelerated healing to the
cells of that rioting squadron of drunken Gamorreans that had formerly
been his brain." - Chpt 4) Between Barbara Hambly and KJA I decided
to try writing myself (story submission to follow after I make just a
*few* more changes).
Other hobbies and obsessions: Reading (of course!), learning to
write (according to my husband, definitely falls under the heading
"obsession"), music (haven't found an orchestra to play in yet, but I
hope to -- I play French horn and piano). Other stuff comes and goes
-- that's a librarian for you, always curious.
Anything else you want to add: I read the bios on the site and
thought to myself that these were exactly the kind of people I'd like
to talk with. So I joined.
