Memoria , Memoria - 29 August 2003

Today starts my first paper for my sem.4 paper . English starts first , and did I mentioned English ? Gosh ! It feels like vomitting !! It's kind of boring that I need to write countless essays for exams since form 1 . The questions are okay . I've drank too much before the paper commences . When the invigilator let us go out from the exam hall , the next thing I knew is that , I've landed myself in the toilet ... What a day !! Met with Joan , Chai Boon , Hueg Yin , Brother Kit , Chee Sum , and Bernard today .

Today is a day where I brought myself down the memory lane . Loittering at the night market today made me remember a lot of my past . Especially my childhood . It has slightly changed . Well , I'm 19 now , and I can still remember that I was 9 years old when I used to visit the night market with my parents almost every Friday nights . Last time , they used to sell VHS tapes and the atmosphere is filled with nice musics . Nowadays , such scenarios can't be found since the government has done a major crackdown on VCDs and Audio CDs . VHS tapes are going to extinct like dinosaurs ! Come on , let's just face it , why go analog when you can go digital ? Kind of nostalgic to me . Ironically , I did found some pirated CDs there . I bought a Dave Koz CD for about 5 ringgit . ( USD 1.25 ) . I'm glad that I found the song 'Cheng Fu' , which is kind of hard to find on P2P networks . I can still remember that my dad used to buy me toys . I was kind of silly that time . If my dad don't buy one , I will surely cry like HELL .. *laughs* .

Back to the technology fronts . According to TechLive today , RIAA's hitlist against P2P file swappers adds up another 800 users . However , the battle of counter-sueing continues . You sue me , I'll sue you back . That's what happening in the technology world now . Well , like the SCO and Linux case . SCO claims that Linux's base code was theirs , but Linux said that its base code was theirs and made public , and now , they have a stable and a good system . Whose fault ? IBM was sued because they released the code , and IBM counter-sued . What a mess ! That was what I learned from TechLive today . So , the question is , what will be the future of Linux ? Will Micro$oft wins the game at the end ? Will free and open source software be possible to make ? Will the I.T. world is nothing but rather about $$$$ ?

Talking about Linux , I've got a question tingling in my mind . We have seen that Linux is considerably a stable and secure OS . The Debian Linux is relatively safe . However , is there any cases reported that Linux has been attacked by viruses ? I'm keen to installing Linux to my machine and looking forward to obtaining the hardwares ( modem , HDD ) , to get the machine burnin' . My concern now , it might be stupid , but , do we need an anti-virus software for Linux ?

But even one day if Linux has its own anti-virus software , it would at last become a laughing stock !!! Just like when Leo and Patrick at The Screensavers , TechTV , laughing at Symantec for releasing an anti-virus program for handheld PCs . "Why releasing an antivirus program , when you know that there won't be one ? " , they commented . But curiosity is still in my mind . What if , I'm just making an assumption . What if , there is really someone , who purposely wrote a virus to kick that PC's butt ? Anyway , in my opinion , even if it does happen , Symantec and the virus programmer would just have one aim , it is nothing but that innocent looking $$$$$$ . Just like what Patrick commented .

Life goes on , and I didn't realize that tomorrow is Saturday ....

Solid Snake - Enjoying life ....
Song : You are me , I am you - Dave Koz
