XML and beyond - 26 April 2003

Did I mentioned 26 April ? Today's dad's 57th birthday !!! Happy Birthday Dad !!! Celebration's kind of simple today . Mom prepared big dishes today and we had a real good time . Ironically , although I knew that it's dad's birthday today , but I forgot to bought him a gift .

XML ( eXtensible Markup Language ) was such a cool technology . I didn't even know about this language until I watched TSS and they mentioned about XML . At first , I thought XML was another version of HTML . It's cool because you can port it into a program and it's cross platform . However , at last , it's main purpose is to define data , not for displaying purposes like HTML do .

XML might probably replace the way we use databases in the future . XML is robust and easy-to-use . The fun thing to do with XML is that you can embed the data onto a HTML file . That means , if you can store stylesheets externally , you can store text and documents externally . That brought me an idea on how to apply XML on ORG .

Noticed the quote part on the top-right corner of our blog site ? It had been such a hassle to change the quote for many pages when you feel like changing it . It gets even more painful when the number of pages are growing . With XML , that won't be a problem anymore. We'll export the quote from the XML file to be displayed on the ORG page and each time when the quote need to be changed , it will be as easy as changing the contents of the XML file and all the quotes on each HTML page will eventually change automatically .

In the meantime , I don't understand what RSS means . Lockergnome uses it for it's RSS channel using XML. I think RSS is used for news channels and stuffs . If I have time , I'll try to do more research on it .

Time seemed to pass quite fast . It has already been a week for my semester break . There's only two more weeks to go . The time is not on my side now . I can't learn new things during this holiday . Time's running out . All I wanted to do now is to finish FF9 which I had already played for almost a year .. and as usual , maintain ORG and try to make the codes to be much more efficient .

Had a chat with Yvonne few days ago and the chat ended up boring due to hot day . Visited her school's website , and the site's kind of neat and simple . I didn't expected schools in the east of Malaysia did such a great job in IT field . When I compared them to websites here in KL , some schools spitted out websites that sounds : BORING !!!

So far , my favourite TechTV celebrity are Adam Sessler and Brett Larson . They were so cute . Adam did such a funny job when hosting Extended Play . The crews on Extended Play was so creative that they edited the clips so perfect that they gave me such a great laugh . They love to include scenes to complete the dialogue . Really neat . Brett Larson ? Sometimes , he seemed like talking rubbish , but it's okay , he's cool after all . So until next time , Game Over !

Solid Snake - boring .. boring .. and boring
