I've been trying to connect to techtv.com several times today (Sat, 25th
January) but i couldn't. Apparently there was no response to any inbound
traffic. Techtv.com could be down, i suppose. I've even ping their server
several dozen times, still nothing , damn silent. I wonder what went wrong. Was
techtv.com attacked ?

I swear not to write another review for at least another week or two.
Seriously, I had a terrible time writing that piece, I just don't know why.
Things were going pretty weird as i wrote the article. My machine was running
kind of sluggish, too slow for normal operations. I didn't have any bulky app
running, just regular stuffs. I had my favourite Domino player in the backgroud
spinning songs for me, a firewall, and of course, MyIE2 running as my source of
writing inspiration. That was pretty much all of it, and i'm not going to
mention the sound device button in the taskbar, the clock, and the annoying(but
useful) power meter. Okay, that was really all of it. But I still couldn't
figure out what actually went wrong. Was my editor sucking up the resources? No
way. Metapad was completely written in C using the Win32 API. The nature of the
app wasn't convincing enough for a memory-feasting party. Domino player maybe ?
Not a chance. I pulled up the Windows Task Manager to catch the culprit behind
all the slow-down. Much to my disappointment, nothing showed signs of
resource-chewing. All programs were running at acceptable levels, no programs
were stuck in the background and not showing itself in the window. So, what was
happening ? You know what? I still don't know why. Somehow, Windows used up some
memory for some hidden dark matters. Whatever it is, i didn't like it very much.
Well, to some, this is the call for a reboot. Fair enough, I had to stop myself
from writing and had to reboot just to reclaim that little bit of memory.
After the reboot, everything seemed to return to normal, and i was back at my
work again, without anything bothering me again. The point is, why is Windows
always taking up so much memory? For swap space? I don't really think so. I
don't do graphics, which is the primary reason i believe i didn't need that much
of swap space. However, i never wanted to tweak the size of the swap space to
make Windows keep less space for swapping, i just didn't want Windows to crash
on me, that's all.
Nevertheless, the article went quite well, although, i'd bet i would have
written in a better tone or perhaps be more interesting. Well, the past is still
the past. Nothing can be done to reverse it.
Melvin did a great job turning the "ORG" text at the top corner of the screen
into a hyperlink to the main page. Thanks a lot. It was really helpful. Which
brings me to my next point. I sort of like "designed" a new logo for ORG. I
wouldn't say it's the best, but i thought it was quite cute. So, i'm suggesting
this to be ORG's new logo which will, hopefully replace the existing ORG logo.
Melvin, please let me know if this thing works okay? Thanks.
Anyways, i thought you might be interested to know, I actually told Hafiz
about our discussion blog, and i think he'll be checking out this blog real
soon. Who knows, he might join us later. :-)
Did you know there's another world wide P2P network other than the famous
Gnutella network? The network is very massive and contains a phenomenal number
of songs, documents and also movies, much like what Gnutella does, but this
network has a potential, it's quite fast and responsive, plus, the scope is
probably larger. Some files that i tried looking in Gnutella were not found but
i finally got them in this network. This network is new to me, and i'm checking
it for some period before i'll do some recommendations. That won't happen until
another week from now, so, if you're interested to know more, you'll just have
to wait for the time to come, okay?
CNY is steadily approaching. I'm actually quite excited about it, much to my
surprise, because i am usually quite cold towards CNY, maybe, this year would be
a little different that the years before, i don't know, there's only one way to
find out, that is to actually celebrate it! Happy Chinese New Year to all, that
includes you, Melvin, my dear friend.
:::::> HOT NOTE <:::::
What is Dark Daemon up to now?
-> Found a Java package in SourceForge.net that could allow an application
window to display HTML 3.0 AND HTML 4.01 documents. Supports Java, JavaScript, and most major components. Save me lotsa time ! No need to recreate the HTML
implementation!
-> For the first time in a day I didn't do any search for XWEBS' news or
possible download link. Relief.
-> Went to the night market and suffered some major suffocation plus some
serious sandwiching. That is, apart from watching TV and listening to some
music, the only non tech thing that i did for the day( I don't always center
around technology! )
-> Friday! Relief! Weekend is here to save my life! I've waited too long
for this weekend. Yiiipppeeeee......!
->Planning to watch '8th Mile' soon. Maybe tomorrow.
-> I'm planning to sleep...now. Ha!

MyIE2 Browser 0.6.835
If you're looking for an Internet Explorer alternative, you could simply do a
search in Google and you're bound to realize that there are probably dozens of
such browsers that promises to enhance your surfing experience. I too was
looking for 'the' browser that could make surfing the web an experience, with
everything right on the interface to customize my personal needs. In fact, when
i first set out in search for that browser that would be my surf buddy, i
thought i was asking for too much, or maybe the browser that i hoped for never
existed. Much to my relief, most browsers offer more than anyone could, some
even too complicated for an average user. But off all the browsers, a few remain
in my favourite list. One of them is a definite must-try. It's called MyIE2 and
its latest release is 0.6.835.
So, what makes this browser stand out among its compatriots? A lot actually.
But some of its best features that i won't stop loving is its speed. It tends to
run smoother and faster when retrieving web pages even during heavy traffic
hours. The application is relatively small, and there is no installation
required! Once you've downloaded this piece of app, you simply unzip it and
you're ready to surf with a few point and clicks. That is all. Pretty easy huh.
The total download size is about 525KB. That's small compared to many other
browsers.
Once loaded, this app doesn't suck up all your system's memory. Most browsers
out there, expecially Sun's HotJava in particular, tend to turn your system into
a zombie after some time. In my humble opinion, most browsers fail at this
point. They just take up too much resources and turn users off. This app, my
friend, does the job absolutely fantastic. It runs so smoothly, it feels as if
you're ice-sledding across the web. I actually experienced that myself last few
nights and it felt absolutely guuuuud. I would say it was better than sex. ;-)
Another point worth mentioning is that the browser starts up FAST! It takes
less than 5 seconds to load the whole app up. That i believe is the fastest load
up i've ever seen in a browser for years. Even IE takes longer to load. Mozilla
loses in this category of fast start-up, however.
Like most IE alternative, this browser boasts its MDI feature, which means
you could surf in multiple frames in a single window, which also means no more
cluttering the taskbar. Neat.
Shortcut keys are abundant, mouse gestures are available for fast switching
between pages. There is also an auto-scroll feature for mouse with a middle
button.
Security wise, MyIE2 fairs averagely. Though it lacks a rock solid security
system, it does incorporate a built in pop up killer, and an option to clear all
cache, cookies, temp files and other leftovers before exiting the application.
And, the last but not least, for users who like to customize the skin of their
browser, you can do this with MyIE2 by downloading some of the skins available
on the app's webpage or even create some on your own with certain tools. In
short, customizability is abundant in this app, and there's always a flavour for
everyone.
The pinnacle to all these pros, is that MyIE2 could retrieve web pages almost
twice as fast as any other browsers out there. The only contender at this point
that i realize is Opera, which actually works almost as fast as MyIE2. Mozilla,
IE, Netscape, Avant Browser, Enigma, NetDive Oxygen, and NeoBrowser could all be
shame on themselves.
If you're concerned about web components support for MyIE2, fear nothing, it
actually supports all web components that IE supports as MyIE2 re-uses the base
code for the browser.
Bottomline, this browser is worth a try if you're serious about switching to
something a little speedier and possibly more fun to surf with. Have fun!
Oh, there's one more little thing, did i mention that MyIE2 is free? Yeah,
it's completely free.
