Okay, there is a bit of a virus turbulence nowadays over the Internet, with the Slammer worm and also
the SayHay, and YaHa viruses, so it naturally sounds the alarm for putting up your anti virus software on the
guard to ward off those evil bytes. How do you know for sure that you're truly protected from the ravages of virii in
the wild? Easy. With EICAR's ( European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research) little "test virus" you can use
it to test your anti virus software to see if it detects it and how the software responds to it. Typically, a good piece
of anti virus should allow the user to choose to delete the file, or better, clean the file while leaving the original intact. If your anti virus
software does neither of the said, it's time to make a switch to other anti virus packages.
Some of the best anti virus I'd recommend are:
~ McAfee VirusScan 7.0
~ F-Secure Anti-Virus Personal Edition
~ Norton AntiVirus 2003
Upcoming and potentially powerful antivirus package (but lack some features found in the above packages):
~ NORMAN Virus Control
So, make sure you're covered. That's all for this week's security tip.
