The four days at Yap's : Part 2 - 19 February 2003

"It's scary ! Joan ignored me and drove away without letting me to explain" . When I woke up , I found that it was just a dream . Maybe because I missed my college frens so much that until I dreamt of them . Geez , scary . It was 7.00 am and I can't sleep again . I spent an hour playing FFIX and increased my characters a few levels . Mom cooked Maggi for breakfast in case I'm hungry when I'm fixing Yap's PC later .

Dad drove me to 176 bus station and I had a brief walk to Yap's house . Upon reaching , He just woke up . Still looked sleepy , just like me . He then told me that something wrong when he installed Win XP . The folder options thingy was unavailable . Then , he showed me a list of tasks to be done so that everything will be done systematically .

So , his PC was reformatted and I re-installed Win 98 on his PC . Looking good . Everything's running fine . Then I upgrade his PC to WinXP . It took us a while , so , he showed me a show which he downloaded from the Internet . The show was Nippu Sentai Hurricanger . It's some sort like Power Ranger thingy ... only that it's in Nihon . By the way , he's a big fan on Sentai and Kamen Rider . Collecting action figures had been his side-hobby . Hey ! Those stuffs ain't cheap , though !

I even showed him some of the VCDs that I created . I showed those J-Commercials that I burned too . Upon completion , we then install all the drivers and softwares without any hessitation . We first met with some problem but , luckily , we managed to fix them . The toughest problem that even I can't fix is the Internet thingy . We were having trouble setting up parameters for his broadband connection . Although the dialer showed the status : connected but we can't open up a page in the browser .

It was 1.30 pm in the afternoon . We went out for lunch at KFC . His grandma treat us for a lunch . After lunch , I accompanied him to Paragon to buy some CDs . He was looking for Chinese Star program , since he can't read any Japanese characters when he attempted to download Japanese Songs . Back to his home , he called the telco contractor to fix his broadband connection . In the meantime , I continued installing softwares on his PC .

3 hours later , two Indians arrived . They fixed everything in just a matter of seconds . They inform us that , we won't need dialer when operating in WinXP . Dialer is needed in OSes other than WinXP . When he opened a page in IE , speed is unimaginable . As dial-up can connect at 56kbps , DSL can connect at 10Mbps !!! Downloading a 4 Meg MP3 file is just a matter of 2-3 minutes .

Time does fly, I didn't notice that it's already been 9 hours since the time I fixed his PC . Reformatting a PC was such a tedious task . I learned a lesson today : I should create an image of my hard disk and burn it onto a CD-RW , so that if the harddisk is wiped out accidentally , I don't need to do the dirty work .

He downloaded two songs for me and gave me all the Japanese Commercials collections that he had . Well , it worth spending some time at his house fixing his PC . At least I'm not leaving home empty-handed . I was so tired that day , that I can't even open my eyes when watching CFH that night !
