IMPORTANT : Checklist for a smooth Linux installation
Be sure to do all of the following before we actually begin installing Linux on your machine.
- Get every detailed information about each hardware component in your system. Manuals are vital. Make sure you have them around.
- Make sure the necessary drivers and setup disks are around.
- And of course, back up!
- Format a black floppy in DOS using the following command: "format /s a:".
Then test the floppy and try to access the CD drive. If the floppy cannot access the CD drive, then copy all the necessary CD drivers into that floppy.
- Check out Hardware-HOWTO and check that all vital components of your system is supported. If you intend to run X a lot, be sure that XFree86 supports your video card. If there's any component that's not supported by Linux as stated in this document, please do tell me.
- Make sure you have all the necessary Windows setup disks.
- Get ready lots of coffee beans...the setup would probably last half a day considering the longest process would be installing Windows.
Saturday is great. But what time?
