Unfortunately I am currently struggleing with how to exactly transfer the real newsletter nicely onto the web since I had to be fancy and use microsoft publisher. But until I figure out, if I do, how to do that here are some importent articles. You can always pick up a copy at SMF, and if there is none there tell Karla and she will let me know. THX
FIRST ANNUAL OPEN HORSE SHOW!
For over two years now ORFA (Operation Rebuild Farm Association) has been operating at Spruce Meadow Farm, helping out with the endless list of farm maintenance. With numerous fundraisers, raffles, and horse shows ORFA has been able to accomplish many of its set goals.
Now with experience on our side weve decided to take our efforts to the next level. We are proud to present to you the first annual ORFA Open Horse Show.
This is going to be our most challenging task yet! We have to start planning and promoting now in order to make this fly! It will mean a lot of ring and jump maintenance. You dont have to be a part of ORFA to help out, we will have open sign-ups this summer for those who wish to help us out in any way! Though if you do want to become a member before this memorable event there is more about membership below!
Do you have any ideas?
This is going to be a HUGE 2-day event, thus we have a lot of room for serious and fun classes. If you have any ideas for any kind of class please mention them to ORFA Presidents Brittany and Christine, or to Karla. Also if you have any ideas of good places to advertise our show also give them to one of the former people. Actually if you have ANY ideas for ANYTHING.well you get the point.
MEMBERSHIP!
I know it seems weve been through this a million times, but with both our presidents in college now its hard to keep track of everything. Though with some serious events coming up it will be good to have an official list, thus we are re-instating the sign-up for ORFA. That means even if you were signed up before you have to sign up again by filling out the form in the envelope by the front barn lesson board.
Also if you want to become a member of ORFA for the first time this is your chance to become a part of the fun. The forms over the holiday season can be found near the front barn lesson board.
Membership will always be an ongoing thing. If at any time you wish to join us we would LOVE to have you with us. If there are no forms posted anywhere just ask one of ORFAs presidents Brittany Schlossin and Christine Ziemer, or Karla Deacon (The owner of SMF) for one.
Those Who Have Come and Those Who Have Gone
I would like to take a moment from your careful analysis of this important newsletter to ask for your prayers for our faithful canine friend Beanie who passed away this past season. May his transition be simple and sweet and all his friends and family rejoice in the knowledge that they will one day be together again.
Now I would like to send out a warm greeting to all the newcomers to the SMF Family. Our new trainer who came this past summer, KIM! To our new farm hands, Bridget and Kristen. Also a special greetings goes out to
Elisa and PACO!!
Paco is our newest boarder who is currently living in the last stall on the left in the front barn. Elisa who leases Paco is a proven friendly asset to the SMF family. Lets hope shes a keeper!
ORFA would like to give a friendly wave to Star and Mercedes, and their owners, theyve left their print at SMF and wont be forgotten.
SMF Summer Day Camp
It wouldnt be summer at Spruce Meadow Farm if we didnt have our traditional Summer Day Camp. This year we are doubling our sessions to two sessions in a day. (8:30-12:30 , 1:00-5:00)(End of JuneAugust)
Our horse-back riding day camp will include instruction in riding and horsemanship skills. Campers will learn how to ride, groom, and safely handle the horses as well as how to see to their daily care. Proper maintenance of the horses environment and equipment will also be covered.
As well as daily riding lessons, each Monday there will be a photography and scrapbooking clinic. Our clinician, Ruth Keenan, will give general as well as horse-specific tips and will help campers come up with creative ideas and begin to put together a horse-camp scrapbook. The students should bring their own cameras (disposable is fine!). We will also be taking picture throughout the week and there will be time on Friday morning for them to complete their scrapbooks (a couple of pages will be left blank for pictures that get developed at a later date). Ruth is an experienced photographer and also has a doctorate in art education.
In addition we will be holding a horse show at the end of each week for our campers to show off what theyve learned for friends and family.
