It is estimated that 77 tons of plastic trash is dumped into the sea. Commercial fishing discards about 298 million pounds of gear (fishing nets, ropes, bouys, ect.), and dumps another 52 billion pounds in plastic packaging materials. Recreational vessels, passengers, oil and gas companies, and other companies all do their share of polluting our seas.

It is not known how long plastic remains in the sea, but an average 6-pack plastic holder could last for up to 450 years.
Thousands upon thousands of marine animals are trapped and killed in plastic waste that is polluting the ocean. Fish are trapped, seals becaome tangled, birds, and many other marine animals get caught in the drifting plastic and become entangled and some die. Others eat or swallow the plastic and choke and die. All these deaths because of the pollution of plastic that we are discarding.
