A
packed sandy track seperated the cushion riders from the blue groovers at the
First Round of the O'Reilly Budweiser Outlaw Winter Nationals points series in
Ardmore on Thanksgiving weekend. Over 125 entries including Quads and Hot Rod
Riding Mowers participated. Photos of the Champions in each Short Track class
are posted on: <http://www.kennysealsphoto.com/wrestling.htm>
Clayton Hull rode his BH Racing entry to the top place on the O'Reilly Budweiser
VP Racing podium Friday night November 28 at the Hardy Murphy Colliseum in
Ardmore Oklahoma to take home top honors in the Open Pro Singles class. Hull
came off a previous second place finish at the Eddie Hill's Fun Center Indoor
earlier in the month held at the JS Bridwell arena in Wichita Falls, Texas. This
makes Hull the man to beat in the Indoor Championships for the Texas Oklahoma
area. Jasom Tyer looked great in the heat races aboard his Kirby Kyles prepared
Honda, but a fall in turn one of the main event put him out of the race. Mark
Williams crashed hard on the front straight, landing on his head and momentairly
losing his wits. The EMT's checked him out during the mandatory 8 minute red
flag time out. Williams riding the Showtime Motorsports entry was able to come
back and finished a close second to Hull. Finishing thrid was Jermy Hinkle
mastering the Lawton Brace and Limb machine to thrid place.
The Future Stars led by Fred Mattox, who competed and won in both the Dirt Kart
and Pee Wee Motorcycle racing action at Ardmore, got a large applause from the
fans in the stands. But it was the 85/125 Class that had the most entries of the
night. Cory Richard, who is the reining champion of the O'Reilly Summer
Nationals held at the Half Mile this summer, came into Ardmore loaded for Bear.
The Richard Racing Team's motorhome and trailer were first at the gate at 6am
Friday morning. Making the trip all the way up from Lake Charles Lousiana, the
Richards' are a tribute to dirt track racing.
Cory Richard won the first heat race and Travis Whitaker on a TT 125 Yamaha, the
defending four time champion of the Hardy Murphy Coliseum Indoors won the second
heat race. The main event saw Richard going to the lead, followed by Dallas
Dobbs riding the four stroke Honda Stubblefield Special. Dobbs led lap five
getting around Richard on the top of the cushion track, but Richard came back to
lead it to the finish with Dobbs placing second and Whitaker third. Watch for
these young guns coming up.
The 125-250cc Combined Amateur class was all Chance Osburn, who almost pulled
off the hat trick by winning three races in one night, he fell short after a
broken chain put him in the infield on the start of the third main event.
The Mad Dogs held up to their reputation at Ardmore. It was a barn burner once
again as Clayton Hull took the checkered flag for the second time and the money
back home to Texas defeating the Oklahoma riders on their own turf. The
challenge has been set, to see who is the fastest Dog Rider on the planet. Hull
may have had an advantage as there were three Hulls represented from Texas in
the main event.
Action, Tempers and Emotions ran wild in the Pro Masters main event, as Danny
Hammonds and Mike Bauer got into each other in turn one. Bauer ended up in the
deep cushion, stalling his bike, while Hammonds continued on in second spot.
After several gestures and extra effort on Bauers part to attempt to restart the
Dobson Brothers Cycle entry, Bauer finally had enough. Kicking the tire marking
turn one out onto the track, causing Hammonds to miss it. Then the fight was on!
After a sucker punch, a few head locks, and neck twists provided by the track
crew, both riders settled down. The crowd went wild, and they will be talking
about it around the water cooler back at work all week. Oh yeah, Ken Greasy won
the Pro Masters race, almost forgot. (NOTE: Kids, although this kind of thing
happens, it is not recommended you act this way)

QUADS
Ardmore got an eye full of the Four Wheeler Short Track action, as Jerod Dotson
blasted the crowd with dirt on the front stretch during the heat races. That set
the stage for the action that was to follow. In the Pee Wee division, Jimmy
McQuiston took the win in his first ever race aboard a quad. Chad Heil again put
his great looking #30 machine to the point to take the win in the highly
contested 85 Mod Quad Short Track class followed by a close Garrett Clark who
was challenged by Jordan Peck on several ocasions during the 10 lap main.
The Pro Riders led by AMA ATVA National Number One Plate holder Todd Harrell lit
up the nights action. Harrell sponsored by Daley's Speed Shop out of Tulsa,
Oklahoma came into Ardmore as the man to beat. Owner Red Daley was on hand to
watch the action unfold at the famous Hardy Murphy Coliseum, host to Indoor
Racing action that dates back to the 1950's. Harrell was able to win three of
the four races he entered. Four is the same number of National Number One plates
he earned Championshiop Points in in the American Motorcyclists Associations
ATVA Grand National Championship Series in 2003. Todd Harrell is the only rider
in history to of won Four GNC Number one Plates in one season. He sure proved
himself at Ardmore, and took the title as Pro Quad Champion of round one of the
hotlycontested O'Reilly Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Dirt Track Round one.

Once again the Hot Rod Mowers provided a smile on the fans faces at Ardmore,
returning from the summer of 2002, the Texas Grass Car Association headed up by
Wild Will from Stephenville Willard Kelly. What a great time these people have.
Never a dull moment with the Mowers, from the rolling starts to the crashes into
the wall, and broken machines. Are they drivers or riders asked announcer Dr.
Jack Rhodes? Depending on the type of mower they operated and if equipped with a
steering wheel or a set of handlebars, they could be considered riders or
drivers one assumes. Rhodes wonders if it is legal to shoot at your competitors
as the open exhaust from the mowers engines back fire and bang loud like a shot
gun. Rhodes asks the crowd, "Is is legal to shoot at your competitor in
Lawn Mower Racing? To get the total Mow Down, read the results
and article by Wild Will in next months Flattrack Illustrated.
