Wow, the Indoor Short Track fans turned out in major portions for Rnd #6 of the AMP Outlaw Winter Nats held in Harrah, Oklahoma last night. In a word the racing was INTENSE! The old barn was rockin' and rollin' with the sounds of fast paced racing action going on once again. Danny Cartwight, who won many an indoor at the Johnson's Arena as it was named back then, recalled the hay-days of the old barn, during a track side interview with announcer Ron "Stoney" Stone. Cartwright mentioned the fast company he was always in with, including Randy Cleek, Eddie Daley, The Kansas Brothers and others.
Shane Carson, director of the World of Outlaws division of Norman, Oklahoma based Dirt Motorsports, was on the front row of the bleachers taking it all in. Carson, who raced motorcyles in the arena, won his share of short track races in the old barn in the early 1970's. Motorcyle racing seems to be returning to the days of the late 1970's and early 1980's when you could find four or five races a week, running on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday nights each week.
Four other Indoor races were going on last night in Oklahoma, including the National Arenacross up the highway in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the Xtreme World Arenacross in Claremore, Oklahoma, the Indoor Short Track at Muskogee and the Indoor Short Track at Ada, add in the Indoor Short Track races at Harrah and you have a total of 5 motorcycle/atv/kart races happening on the same night! Next weekend proves to be just as packed with motorcycle races including the Tulsa Arenacross, The Corky Story Memorial, and two other Indoor motorcycle races.
If you are wanting to race or watch Motorcycle and ATV races in Oklahoma, this past weekend was packed full of events, including the annual Motorcyle Show at the Oklahoma State Fair Park.
A mix of riders from various disciplines were on hand to do battle Saturday night in Harrah, Oklahoma. The indoor Short Track Races are starting to resemble the Chili Bowl format, with racers coming together from several different displines. Those included championship caliber riders from Moto-Cross including Guy Cooper and Brad Roberts, championship riders from Road Racing including Dustin Dominguez and Conner Blevins, plus championship riders from Enduro including Chauncey Justick. Added to the mix a few very hot shoe short track champs including Joe Duvall, Brandon Cartwright, Bret Sowders and Victor McAnnley. And for his first race ever, Sebastion Ellingsworth, son of #36 Vintage 600 rider Kevin Ellingsworth won his first trophy at Harrah. Eddie Greene out of Tulsa, placed third in the PW class in only his third race of the series, and his second time at Harrah.
Cartwright took the checkers in the Open Pro Singles class ahead of second place challenger Joe Duvall. Justin Elswick makes a come-back from struggling from a broken throttle cable last round handing the points lead to Austin Medrano. Elswick fought off the 2005 points champion #59 Anthony Varano in 125/250 to regain the points lead in that calss. Elswick won another other hard fought battle in the 125/250A Open A class.
Central Motorcycle Road Racing Association Champ Conner Blevins took the win in the 85 class, spoiling Austin Medrano's perfect score of 5 wins for the series. Old-Pro Jimmy Long riding the Mike Bridges prepared Yamaha prevailed in the 600 Pro Vintage after a hard tangle in turn one involving two other riders. Long's bike suffered some fiberglass damage from the rear end collision, but was able to continue for the win. Texan, Hunter Watson continued his winning ways taking a few wins for the nights action. Frank Bardaro rode his way to cool Triumph to another first place finish in the Vintage Twin class.
Quad-A action saw J. B. Roberts and Brad Roberts going across 1 & 2. Brad Robert's rides for Sandtrax & Factor 1 Racing out of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
