Game Speed :
Tips
to speed up Dune 2000 on the internet multyplayer mode:
1. Go to Windows main screen (desktop):
- right click the dune 2000 shortcut icon
- select properties
- you will see a line saying:
C:\...\WESTWOOD\DUNE
2000\dune2000.exe
- add -f
to the end of that line, so you will have:
C:\...\WESTWOOD\DUNE 2000\dune2000.exe -f
- it will make the game faster and is very usefull if you have an old video card or
if your video card driver is not up to date.
2.
Change graphics to 8 bit mode in the main menu options (avoids "out of sync").
3.
Turn off music during the game.
4.
Don't play vs AI players, only human players with good connections.
5.
Turn off worms and crates too.
6.
Stop downloads and shut down ICQ during games.
Rules Created by the Players:
These rules where created by the players of DUNE 2000 and most of the advanced players know and use them in friendly games. By breaking these rules in a game your credibility will go down and players will take you for a newbie or a cheater. The host is the one who dictates the rules for the game before it begins. If the host doesn't say anything, the game has no rules, but you'd better ask about it before accepting.
NO RUSH - It means you can't attack the enemy base before 10 minutes of play.
NO
ENG
- It means you can't use engineers to capture enemy structures.
NO TURRETS
- Don't build any kind of turrets.
NO HH -
It means you can't hunt enemy harvesters. Avoid getting attack units on spice
fields.
NERTHH - no enginner, no rush, no turrets, no harvester hunting.
Problems With the Server:
Games freezing before you can start them: It happens very often when you host a tournament game or a friendly for 2 players. I don't know yet how to fix this problem, so all you can do is close dune and restart it. There is no need to reboot your computer. Just hit alt + esc to show windows screen, then hit ctrl + alt + del once and close the first Dune2000 aplicative. Then hit ctrl + alt + del again and close the other Dune2000 applicatives. After you have closed them all, wait about 30 seconds and run Dune 2000 again from the cd.
Games not connecting one of the players: This happens all the time in games for 3 or more players. The last player in list (alphabetic order) rarely connects. All that can be done in that case is to host games for one more player and ask for someone to leave in the case of all connecting. To play a game with 4 people you need to host a 5 player game with the 6 player patch posted at the downloads section.
