Three Cheers for Republican Dan
David Cheney Publisher - Ordeal of Liberty October 19, 2004
Dear Dan, you're my new hero. It's enlightening for this 47 year old man to hear of a younger man in school such as yourself fighting the ignorance which we've created in America today. As bad as it was three decades ago when I was in school, it's obvious that in that timeframe, American education has spiraled downhill. I guess it's not surprising given that in a couple of weeks, approximately 49% of American voters will go to the polls and vote for a man for the office of President of the United States who has not figured out that:
The well financed and organized world-wide terrorism network which has vowed to destroy America since the late '70's cannot be defeated by sitting quietly within our borders and hoping not to offend it.
"Rich" people, small companies, and large corporations create jobs, opportunity and wealth in America - that penalizing the people who create jobs will not create more American jobs.
The U.N. is a corrupted and criminal organization
Lawyers, litigation, and government over-regulation are harming all Americans
The American experiment in freedom created over two hundred years ago has resulted in the greatest worldwide expansion of personal, economic and social liberty the world has ever seen
Denegrating our allies will not result in stronger alliances, nor more allies
There has never been a nation on earth which has survived while not protecting it's borders
America is a nation which was founded, and has prospered with religious beliefs - in a variety of shapes and forms
I could add more to this list, but I believe that you probably are two steps ahead of me anyway, and probably have even more examples than I. What you don't know is that I too, like yourself, spent a fair amount of time in Connecticut - 11 years to be exact. I loved hiking along the Salmon River in the central part of the state. I loved to visit The Devil's Hopyard and Hurd State Park. I'm sorry to say that I hated the politics in the state at the time, and the Connecticut people just seemed...well... stuck up. Anyway, to make a long story short, after over a decade of living there, I was fortunate enough to move to a neighboring state. Unfortunately, it was Massachusetts.
Jeez, what a crooked state that was (is). My conservatism only strengthened there as I endured the politics and passions of representatives like Charles Flaherty, Billy Bulger, Nick Mavroules, and that gay congressman...Barney Frank. What a joke he was. Again, like Connecticut, I enjoyed hiking - specifically along the Blackstone Canal south of Worcester and just north of Woonsocket, R.I. Now there's some great American history for you. Built by mostly Irish immigrants in the 1820's and 30's out of huge granite blocks and built in order to link Central Massachusetts to the Atlantic Ocean. Sadly, it was built just as America was transforming from an agricultural society to an industrial society - new railroads made the Blackstone Canal obsolete just as it was completed in 1847. Anyway Dan, I understand the feeling of being alone in the wilderness which conservatives experience when living among socialists who've turned their backs on their own heritage...I published my first website ("Conservative America") in Massachusetts in 1996 at the height of the Republican revolution. It was fairly successful and I enjoyed quite a bit of hate mail from my viewers. It was sad to live in a state where the inhabitants had totally abandoned the ideals and opportunities given to them by the people whom they had directly decended from.
I was outa there in '97 when the company I worked for closed it's doors in Massachusetts and moved to South Carolina. Fortunately, I was selected to help with the startup operations in South Carolina. Lord, what a change !! The most liberal politician in S.C. was roughly equivalent to a Republican in Massachusetts. I made some great things happen in South Carolina... I bought my first house in '97, stopped drinking alcohol in '99, and married the best wife in the world in 2000. She too, had lived in Massachusetts for quite a few years and had ended up in South Carolina under similar circumstances. After living there for nearly five years, the constant politics surrounding the confederate flag on the capital building....and after one too many comments from southerners telling us "Yankees" to go home, we decided to follow their advice.
We now live in the Phoenix, Arizona area where my wife's family lives. We've survived the attack on America in 2001, and bought a new house here in Arizona. Hope to retire here. My mother and sister still live in Massachusetts - as does my stepson Joey who has his own family now and whom I am very proud of. My stepdaughter still lives in South Carolina, was recently married, and now has a home of her own. I'm also very proud of her and what she has accomplished at her young age.
Me ? I'm still working my tail off, I also recently resurrected my conservative website and renamed it "Ordeal of Liberty". The purpose of the site is to highlight the concept that our American freedom and liberty must be balanced exactly by an equal amount of personal, social, and civic responsibility. One of those responsibilities is for Americans to become factually educated on the issues before voting, and sorry to say, I just don't see it happening. I see 49% of the people being sucked into the class warfare and class envy/jealousy trap by a couple of candidates who will say anything to get elected. I see two candidates who are so naive in American foreign affairs that it would be dangerous for America to let them loose on the world with any kind of political title, much less as President and Vice President of the United States. And I see 49% of the American public falling for these two candidates who are obviously ignorant of America's history and heritage. Good luck to you, Dan. Keep attempting to educate your classmates....before it's too late.
