| The Roof | ||||||||

| Sometime late in the afternoon, you decide to investigate the roof. Unlike the other floors of the temple, there are only two items of interest up here. One item, a catapult, looks as if it has seen recent use. You scan the horizon and it doesn't take long for you to figure out what the catapult was used for. The bridge to Minoc has been destroyed, and the High Seas Mercantile Company tower looks to have taken some damage also. You move closer to investigate the catapult, but another orc holding a hammer and doing repairs to it shouts for you to get away. The other item of note, the temple's altar, rests quietly on the roof. The circular base of the altar looks to be made of crude ceramic. The ceramic has several orcish holy symbols on it, each of which look to have been engraved in the clay before it was burned to ceramic. Resting in about the middle of the altar is a large stone head, with four crudely carved faces. On top of this massive stone head rests a human-sized valorite helmet. On the ceramic around the head, various items rest; the bones of three fingers (each bearing a magical ring), some red dragon scales, some white dragon scales, a cup holding some dice, a small magical gem, a golden trophy, a wheel of cheese, some raw ribs, and last an orb of dark energy. You refrain from looking at the orb for long as it gives you immense pain to do so. A boisterous band of half a dozen orcs stomps up the stairs to the roof, each shouting in celebration. The pound their armor with their fists, adding to the noise. Before long, the rest of the temple gives a few less enthusiastic shouts before returning to whatever it was they were doing. The party jumps for joy, hooting and hollering as they encircle the altar. Each in turn bows to the altar before placing a broken weapon, shield, or bit of armor near the ceramic next to some other similar items that you had not previously noticed. Juding by the recent looking wounds and bloodstains on the orcs, you can guess that this band had just returned from some sort of raid and these items were taken from slain enemies. The items were then in turn offered in tribute to the wargod. The group then turns to go back down stairs, probably to celebrate in the barracks. Two of the orcs stay behind, looking at you intently. What do you do? Go see what they want. Go back downstairs. |
