RicShar Farm Shires
RicShar Farm Shires is owned by Dr. & Mrs. J. Richard Hurt ("DOC" & Sally). Dr. Hurt is a Primary Care Physician in West Jefferson, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus, Ohio). The farm was established in 1965 and was home for two Quarter horses and one Morgan horse. During the last 30 years the Hurt family has raised and shown Shires in the Midwest and Eastern states.
Their first Shire was purchased in 1975, Newton Dainty, an English registered and imported horse. This Shire mare was the only Shire in Ohio for several years and was the first Shire shown at the Ohio State Fair Draft Horse Show in more than thirty years. Fortunately, the interest in Shires was spreading in Ohio and throughout the country. In order to obtain separate judging for the feathered breeds, in Halter and Hitching classes, Dr. Hurt collaborated with several Clydesdale owners to form the Ohio Regional Clydesdale & Shire Association. This feathered breed organization has successfully convinced many County, State & National Shows to include joint & separate classes for Shires and Clydesdales.
Although a small breeder of Shires, "Doc" & Sally have raised a number of Shires during the last 30 years. Currently they have a 19 year old mare, imported from England, a 5 year old mare sired by Fox Valley Oliver and a recent stud foal sired by Metheringham Upton Isaac. The latest stud foal, known as J.B. (RicShar's Prince Jellybean) is for sale. Several pictures are included. He is going to be dark bay in color and is perfectly marked. He has the potential to be a 19 H horse.
