Stardate 110904.1

Finally, after a long wait, with much postponements and delays, we finally had our Ultimate DS9 Marathon! Sure, we were short of a couple of people, but that never stopped any Trek fanatic from watching any Star Trek episode before. Especially of one of the most anticipated series – Deep Space Nine!

Sook Chee (icheekaze) reached my place first at 4.30 pm (after circling the nebula for a couple of the minutes) and got settled right in with the junk food. We started at with Episode 1 – The Emissary, which was a two-part pilot for the 1 st season. I have to admit, as much as I enjoy pilots, this was a little slow to my liking. Patrick arrived at 5.30 pm with the Blood wine and Cardassian kanar, and we continued watching the episodes continuously till our stomachs alerted us of the Klingon gagh waiting on the dining table for us.

After piling our plates with gagh ala spaghetti, we went on through the night chatting and laughing at some of the funnier episodes till 1.30 am, when we took a small break. Patrick decided to go home to get a shower and some pillows; leaving both Sook Chin and I to walk to a nearby 7-11 to replenish our supplies. We got back quickly and after a quick tour of my very small Star Trek book collection, continued at 2.15 am again. Since I couldn’t get Season 2 or 3 for this last minute event, we jumped straight to the action in season 4 with episode “Little Green Men”, which was about Quark, Rom and Nog ending up in 1947 and being mistaken for Martians (think Roswell incident)!

This thoroughly woke us up, with us rolling about the floor laughing at the episode, we started afresh at the beginning of Season 4 (we were just jumping all over the place!) with “Way of the Warrior” when Klingons invaded Deep Space Nine. Sadly, Patrick was the first one to lose the fight, dropping off at about 4am on the marble floor as both of us girls relentlessly pulled through with our noses to the screen.

Okayyy… so we cheated a little - sometime around then, I dozed off for about 5 minutes, woke up and found SC nodding off as well – with Patrick snoring in the background. But it was for only 5 minutes!!!

Suddenly, in the middle of the first episode (two-part episode, mind you), at exactly 5.15 am, we heard a crash outside the gates of my house, followed by shouting, just as the Klingons transported onto Deep Space Nine and were fighting in Ops. The first thing that crossed my mind was that Klingons had transported to the front of my gate! We ran to the window and saw that a motorbike and a car had crashed into each other, and the guy in the helmet had grabbed the other guy out of the car and started to beat him up. (Phew, relief it wasn’t an invasion.)

After much yelling, the fight was over, and both parties sped off. Feeling relieved, we continued watching DS9 and finished the 3 rd episode just as the sun came up at 7 am. That was when we realized; we did it! From 4.30 pm till 7 am – we survived 14 & ½ hours of Star Trek episodes non-stop. Now that’s HARDCORE TREK!
