Lolita, or otherwise known as Tokitae, as been performing in an aquarium called Miami Seaquarium in Mimai, Florida for 37 years. She is the eldest and most famous living orca in the world today.
Lolita was draged from her L pod family in August 1970, ripped away at the age of 8 years old and forced into an illegal sized tank for a mere $3000. Two years before another member of her pod, a male named Hugo, was also captured and was one of the two orca captured in that attack at Penn Cove, Washington. Hugo and Lolita were reunited for a while before the pair were seperated for fear that they would fight, but as the Seaquqrium was so small there was no other place for Hugo to be placed, but in a Manetee tank. Compairing the size of a manatee to an orca whale is wasn't surprising that poor Hugo died of a brain hemerage after he bashed his head to many times into the side of the tank... Poor Hugo died in 1980 after surving ten amazing years in that tiny tank!
Lolita today is cramped in a tiny death trap of a tank. Her tank is situated just above the electrical systems of the Seaquarium so any day now Lolita could be electricuted alive. Lolita has survied three decades in this hell and many people today are begging the Mimai Seaqurium for her release, but still nothing has been done. Miami Seaquarium has promised Lolita a new tank, but nothing has been done. Lolita is still waiting for her release, alone, sad and cramped. |
