Bare Facts: Female ~ Born 1999 ~ Mother Skagit ~ Father Unknown ~ Children None ~ ID Sharp, curved fin; nick

Sunny was born in 1999 to Skagit (A35). She joined her two older sisters, Kiltik and Racey. Around the time of her birth, her mom, her sisters and her began to spend a lot of time away from the rest of their family: Sunny's grandma, Yakat, and her aunt and uncle, Nahwitti and Skeena. Sunny's birth may have been the trigger of this; Skagit's family was getting too big for the pod!
In the 2001 edition of the Blackfish Sounder, the results of Dr. Lance Barrett-Lennard's study on orca DNA were published. It was thanks to this study that we learned Sunny was a girl! This makes three daughters for Skagit!
In 2002, Sunny got her first niece/nephew, when Kiltik gave birth to A76. Sadly, the little calf did not survive its first year.
The next year, Sunny got a sister/brother, Roller (A77). Roller, happily, DID survive his/her first year and is still healthy at two years old.
Finally, in 2004, Sunny got two niece/nephews, when both Kiltik and Racey gave birth, to Nalau and Canoona, respectively.
In 2006, tragedy struck the family when Racey disappeared and Canoona was hit by a boat. The same year, Sunny showed up with a new nick.
Sunny won't be having her own kids for a while. She's only 7 years old. But she's healthy and happily traveling with her family!
