| Katz Castle("Cat" Castle) was built by the counts of Katzenelnbogen at some time before 1371. It was blown up by the French in 1806, and then partially restored in 1896-98. Maus ("Mouse") Castle, the name was a humorous gibe at neighbouring Katz Castle and the counts of Katzenelnbogen. It was originally called St. Perterseck. |

| König Ludwig II. Von Bayern(1845-1886) Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, and Herrenchiemsee are three most important building projects of Ludwig II- the "fairy-tale king". Neuschwanstein was built since 1869. The theater scene-painter Ch.Jank created fanciful designs. Some structures had been finished in 1880, but the entire complex was only completed in a simplified form in 1892, after the king's death. Ludwig II felt harried by various challenges throughout his life. In fact, Ludwig's relationship to real life was a broken one. His homosexual predisposition probably was caused most of his inner distress. He forfeited his authority for "health reasons". Prince Luitpold, an uncle of Ludwig II, took over the regency on 10 June 1886. The next day he and his doctor were drowned in Lake Starnberg. |
