| My view of assessment is that it
is meant to be an ongoing formal and informal evaluation of mastery of
content material. However, this is not the sole purpose of assessment.
I believe that assessment is also used to show the academic growth of a
student over a period of time. This evaluation can take place in a
number of ways, and therefore should be adapted for different learning
styles. I believe that all forms of assessment should be connected to the standards and benchmarks set forth by New York State. Therefore, my daily instructional techniques will help the student's to achieve mastery of these standards, and will be directly influenced by the assessments set forth by the district and by the state. My classroom assessments will be both a valid, and reliable measure of the student's capabilities! Tests, quizzes are formal assessments that are used in order to measure mastery. My homework assignments, though counting for a grade, is truly meant to be solely to represent growth of the students. Informal assessments take place on a daily basis through observation and class participation in discussions and group projects. |
