Conversational Hungarian the Easy Way
By Dr. Judith Kastely Ruzicska
Learn Hungarian the Easy Way— online
(But never learn to drive that way).
Just click and you’re on your way to
talking like the rest of us!
Let’s go!
Jo! Jo! Jo!
Yes, Hungarian is a bit challenging and there
are lots of rules, but they are surprisingly consistent. This course is designed to give you the
basics to get started speaking quickly.
If you want to get into heavy-duty language study, the best way is to go
to Hungary for an extended period.
There are also many good sources on the web for advanced study. If you are serious about studying further
than these pages, please email us and we will try to refer you to helpful sources.
Lesson
One: Four new words already!
1. Your first word: Jo
Jo means good, OK, fine,
good, great, etc.
Sounds like yo as in
yo yo
jo, jo jo . . .
You can carry on a long
conversation with a Hungarian by just letting the Hungarian talk (they love it)
and by saying jo every now and then!
2. What part of Nem
don’t you
understand?
Nem, Nem, Nem (No, No, No)
3. Igen, Igen, Igen (Yes, Yes, Yes)
(eee’ gen) g as in gun
Igen
is another word you can use a lot, just be careful what you say igen to!
4.
Szuper! (Super!)
Hungarians love the word
super, pronounced
sue pehr (second syllable e like e in ten)
Ez szuper! This is
super! (Ez sue per)
Az szuper! That is
super! (Uhz sue per)
Szuper! You’ve
learned four new words!
