Daria

This is actually in memoriam to Daria, the coolest animated tv show ever (yes, dear friends, I think it even surpasses The Simpsons). Sadly, MTV has killed off one of their most original programmes ever. Probably so they can give more funding to crap like Real World Goes Sick in Seattle. The Daria telemovies and final season have not yet been shown on ABC here yet, get your act together guys! The tales of the coolest and most sardonic resident of the town of Lawndale, Daria will live on in my heart (and her best friend Jane as my future wife).

The Return of David Lynch

Okay, he didn't actually go anywhere, but it is nice to see the most celebrated director of the so-called abnormal rescue one of his works from development hell (also known as American network television), and complete it so that it becomes one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. Mulholland Drive is a mind-bending visual jigsaw puzzle - a poignant and tragic lovestory that at the same time critiques the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and also the wannabes, that live in the hills of Hollywood. If this pilot hadn't been canned it could have been a series to rival the brilliance of Twin Peaks.

Remakes of Classic Movies

Nothing says originality like a recycled movie! Can't wait to see the upcoming Citizen Kane with Kevin Spacey and John Travolta! (Time for another classic Simpsons moment. Homer: "Oh, and in case you didn't know, I was being sarcastic!" Marge: "Well, duh!").

Affectionate Kittys

Nothing says "I love you" like a sleeping ball of fluff that occassionally gets off you in order to be fed. Or one that as soon as you lie on the floor to read the Saturday Age (believe me, you need the whole lounge roon floor to spread that thing out) will stretch out over the book section. Or will critique your choice in movies (believe me, she does). But in a cat's eyes, that means "you're my best friend". So, cherish it. Dogs aren't that cool.
