My Dorm
The dorm I live in is for female exchange students with one regular college student operating as a zanryousei (Resident Assistant in the US). We are serparated into 8 blocks - each floor has 4 blocks.  Within my block, there are 10 girls (including zanryousei).  In my dorm, each girl has her own bedroom with a desk and a bed madeup with futon. ..so come on in but please excuse the mess...
Our dryer is expensive and inefficient so every Sunday night my room becomes hangdry central.  Maybe I'll retake the pic on a better day of the week.  Any-ho, I love the balcony that's also attached to our rooms - I've never had one before.
Each block in our building shares one kitchen, one bathroom (bathtub and shower excluded cause that's shared by the building), one tatami room with TV, and one dining room/lounge.
Behold the tatami room, named for the style of mats that make up the floor.
Our kitchen - where I'm learning by burning - cooking that is.  Yes, who knew you can burn instant ramen.  Apparently I can.   But I am liking cooking for the other students, let's just hope I'm doing it right.  LOL
To the right is our block's lounge area - eat dinner, do homework, play cards, socialize, or throw rice at people - here's the place to do it.  Wonder who left such a mess...
Also in our lounge - a row of rice cookers.  And if you don't believe rice o be a dietary staple, lemme tell ya, these bad boys are usually in use constantly from 6 pm to 9:30 pm (mmm mmm mmm onigiri rice balls with shakeh, I'm makin myself drool just thinkin bout it...scuse me for a second...
....yummm......shakeonigiri..........
*belch* All right I'm back - on with the tour!  Actually, we've reached the exit/entrance, known as the genkan.  Suc a sight, larger or smaller, is not only common in dorms or houses, but elementary through high school entrances, entrances to some university buildings or classrooms (we have to switch to slippers when entering the AV lab at our school) tea houses, and other buildings. Here, as would be at a school, each person has a shoe box (more like a locker) as you see, but on rainy days we tend to leave our shoes in the entrance pool. By the way, your feet stink, have you considered Doctor Sholes or some Odor Eaters?  Just kidding.  Please return your slippers and put your shoes back on before exiting, thank you for coming and touring my dorm!  Matane!
